i know my truck will try and pick the front wheels up with to much pressure...but i am not on air bags so that may make a diff.check to see if you have any trash in your axle tanks i have had to take my tanks off and clean them out before when i first got my truck 6yrs ago also when i dump my tanks i try and be up on a hill with the back of the truck down hill to help clean it all out......also ot sure if your control is in the midd. of the floor or on the dash but my control is in the floor and i had a line that was bent out of shape going from 1 fitting to another fitting in the control box added a longer pc of hose with no bend and things got better...

I do the same thing when I drain my tanks to make sure I get everything out. I bought all new lines and quick connects as I kept cutting the old lines when changing switches. I think that the new valve I got from hendrickson is defective. I swapped the old valve in and the single direction it works in the axle moves as is should. I don't know if I mentioned it before but the new switch makes a hiss every-time I hit a bump. The old one does not. The old switch was a flip and apparently this valve is no longer sold by hendrickson. They are all push pull now.

I guess it might be possible that the new valve doesn't flow as much the old one?

yes the valve will make a hiss sound on big bumps.. maybe yours does it a little more then mine does cause of the psi diff... but if i cross a speed bump or train track it push the air out the bag til a point while crossing then back to normal... your old valve can you post a pic of it???? most of the valves i have seen and got for my truck or just o rings going bad but i didnt wont to wait a day and be out of work just to rebuild it so i just pick them up... but now when i do replace them i keep the oil 1 and rebuild it then about 3.00 buck for orings... so you may be able to pull it apart and do the oring.. post a pic if you can... but switch is a pull/push button also my gate lock switch is the same.. i know some have the flip type but suppose to be the same deal with them according to some of my buddies...

The valve makes the hiss on small bumps or even jist variations in the road. I will try and get a picture of the valves today. I replaced everything in the system. From air tank to quick releases except the regulator, only because they didn't have one in stock. It does the same thing it did before. Slow to move or will only stay in one direction up or down. This is absurd. Depending on the switch i use its only up or down or hisses air going down the road. I must have gotten either one bad part or multiple bad parts... i picked up some extra qr so i guess i will put them on and see what happens....

do you have a couple little cone shaped copper colored things on your cylinoids? if so take them out they are air filters and they get plugged. they release the line pressure so the quick dumps work. I drilled a small hole in mine and it fixed my problem. mine would go down but wouldnt go up

ok you say its either up or down with the axle.. so that is going to the the reg. as my reg. went out on my truck a few mouths back and the axle would not go up did this about 4 days and then went up.. i called and asked the dealer and they told me change the reg. (20.00) on the tanks for the axle and not a problem since then... the reg. that was on my tanks looks like one off a gas grill or something like that the new 1 looks like just a reg. check valve that flows 1 way and its about 3" long where the 1 i took off was about 5/6" and about 4" wide... check the reg. on the drop axle tanks ....

well first, need to know what kind of lift axle it is. ie is it spring lift or air lift. i know someones going to say something stupd so let me go into detail spring lift will have a set of springs that lift the axle up and airbags to push it down and ride on. an air lift will have what looks like 2 small airbags together at the pivot point that lift it up and a set that it rides on when down. spring style tend to wear the springs out and lift slow and start to lose lift height. if its spring that is the first place i would look. if it air spray the bags wit soapy water and watch for small air leaks on the bags. ive seen these issues to many times. as for air pressure i ran 60 psi n my tri axles both frieghtliner classics, peterbilt and macks. np with that setting i did normal drop it to 50 in the bad weather to get alittle more pressure on the steers. as long as you not pushing in normal road turns your fine

I finally got it fixed a few days ago. It turned out to be a combination of a bad new switch and the regulator. It was hell and it seemed like the last few people to work on the truck just scavenged what they had to make it work so now all lines are the same size and everything is new. It did drive me crazy that I got a malfunctioning new switch. I finally decided that was the issue and replaced it. the axle started to work better but you could hear a delay in the good new switch. Like the air would release between the regulator and switch then would slowly release between the QR and regulator. This was an air up, air down axle.

I do appreciate everyone's help. Thanks again.

no problem glad you got it fixed those lift axles can be a nightmare.......atleast you have an air up down not spring lift...those tend to last longer
