There's no respect anymore. Personally, I think they need to segregate the parking lots; Reefers, idlers here, quiet zone here, temp shower customers here etc; Good luck on that one though. I don't park at truck stops most of the time. I generally park at Walmart. Being a car hauler, I sometimes park near a car lot. I've never been bothered because they assume you are picking up there or making a delivery. I fuel and shower at truck stops but that's it.

Believe it or not there was a time when people understood what STOP meant. When you see a driver trying to exit and you're closing in on the entrance, it was customary to stop and signal the other driver to go. Same way with backing up your truck. It was customary to stop and WAIT (let me look that up) until the driver signaled that he was in the hole and was done. It was also courteous to park your truck before you went in to grab anything other than your fuel ticket. These fat lazy truckers these days just don't care anymore. It's not just truckers either, it's society. People today want someone like the President to fix our problems. What we are failing to realize is that before a country can change, people must change! But you won't find 2 out of 100 people flying by you everyday and cutting you off on the way home from work that think it has anything to do with them. Welcome to the ME, ME, ME world.

The op was spot on. Between the reefers and newer trucks that sound like jets preparing for take off it's becoming increasingly difficult to grab some quality down time. The feds have got their panties in a bunch about sleep apnea but are ignoring the noise variable in relation to our waking up ready and able to save the four wheelers from themselves. I would go out of my way to to shut down for my 10 in a segregated lot.

I always wait for inbound big trucks if I'm coming out. I also blink my lights, call out bears on the CB, and give a shout out if everyone comes to a quick stop on the freeway. Seems like these days we could run together for 500 miles and no one else is calling out bears or trying to be helpful.

There was just a driver all pissed off at the other end of the lot, I heard some one blowing there horn, then he came on the cb, #### guy parks next to me and idles at full throttle.

I guess I'm just lucky because don't even notice idling, and reefers. The thing about the issue in this thread is, sure there are some truck stops where you can park away from other drivers, but not many, and then the reefer haulers are screwed either way do you bother the guy parked off by his self, or a guy on each side off you in the lot. I mean because really I just don't see the kind of space for everybody to be happy.

I also think it go's back to the me me me thought process, like even if it means the other driver has to drive another hour to park that's fine, just don't bother me, what do you think this is a truck stop. I agree there is a lack of courtesy and respect, I find it in the fuel island more than any where.

I just try not to look into things to much, you know as a OTR truck driver even if you love what you do there is days when your missing momma. Or your dispatcher just bent you over and didn't use any lube. May be running late on a load. Now im not saying any of these are good excuses to be disrespectful, but maybe there not doing it on purpose, and in my opinion there is a difference.

The day I realized I wasn't perfect at all times was a heart breaker, but it also made me realize I can't except every body else to be either.

Heh, almost makes me wanna turn the reefer on with this empty, see if people stop creating parking spaces near me. I am in the last set of lines, but they are parked all the way to the edge of the lot totally blocking anyone going that way...

All you guys having trouble sleeping because of loud reefers or truck motors are overlooking a very simple solution. It has nothing to do with changing other's behaviour. It's 2 words, and you can probably get them free at some of your pickups and deliveries. Are you ready for the magical 2 words that make it so I can sleep next to a sleeper set to -20 continuous? Consider these 2 words as a gift... EAR PLUGS!

That's my only gripe. I can handle idling engines, I actually like and miss the hum and vibration of my reefer.... but I hate the 15 second spitters. Thank God for ear plugs:-D

I always considered that courteous in a way. Maybe not at that moment for you, but when one of the trucks on either side leaves, it makes it easier for the next truck to back in.
