My husband applied at Schneider and Roehl (he will be a new driver starting with school). He was accepted at both, but the recruiter told him Schneider is only hiring for teams out of Central FL right now. So he is considering Roehl and can start school after the first of the year. Looks like the nearest drop yard/terminal is in Atlanta.
Any Roehl drivers out there that are from this vicinity? Just trying to get the low-down. Obviously, he won't be getting home much, but down the road we're wondering if this has any impact. Are most people closer (than 6 hours) to a drop yard?
I've seen a few people post that are from this area, but seems we live out of hiring range for a some of the larger OTR companies.
Thanks
roehl and central florida

I think most people would go with rohel(rail)...... It sounds off that schenider said that....somebody said they were haveing problems, i am starting to beleave it... Yeah the georgia/flordia is a not so goof freight area( most drivers have stories about siteing in flordia for days waiting for a load).
Good luck -
Roehl hires national out of central florida ,I was talking with there recruiter today ,and faxed them some pertinent info about the Bobmeister it sounded like I am qualified to be in Atlanta around late January,I may follow the freight lines up to Dayton or Indy to get that good hometime ,i also applied with Schneider but decided not to pursue them and they do not hire from central florida but give me a break with there 26 cents a mile anyway

Just wanted to say thanks to those who posted replies. My husband started school in Marshfield on Monday. He got there Sunday and got settled into the aparment.
Being totally new to this, he seems very happy with his choice. There are 5 people in his class with three trainers. He and another lady (who already had CDL-drove bus) have been in the truck a lot every day with one trainer. He really likes the trainers and seems to be progressing quickly. They were out on a county road yesterday. Today he was going in to practice backing.
No complaints, except for the bitter cold-big transition after living in FL for several years (grew up in the midwest, though, so knows the drill).
He will be driving national (his only option due to home location). Lots to learn, but so far, so good.
Thanks again to all who respond to questions-this board has been a great source of information to me, not to mention entertaining! -
that's good to hear! sounds like an exceptional student to trainer ratio.

I was told by the recuiter you are able to take truck home , if you can

I am currently in Marshfield WI at Roehl's Driver Training Center. I am going into my second week tomorrow. Very good experience so far. If you do the 7/2 or 11/3 deals you get your own truck and can take it home.
These people are pretty squared away. I am impressed. I feel that I made the right decision in coming here.

Good for you, Dennis! Week 2 -- now the fun really starts!
Have fun with Marshfield city driving, this week is going to fly by. Before you know it, it's Evo 1 time.

Thanks MommaKay. Believe it or not on Thursday afternoon of week 1 I was the last driver "out in the country" and Dale had me bring the rig home through the city - up Business 13 and South on 97. I know it gets much tougher than that. You really have to pay attention. I am not looking forward to the day I find myself in my first "pinch" and need help to get out in the real world.
