One to cool the ecm in summer and two to keep warm in the cold

It is ran through the ecm to cool it (the ecm, not the fuel). I would expect the ecm to live a very short life if bypassed.

Talk with about this some time ago with one man who's opinion I respect and I was told it is safe to bypass an ECM and run a fuel line straight to a cylinder head. It is needed on dump trucks and other machineries that work hard without anough airflow to cool ECM but for highway trucks it not necesary. Here what he said: It was a thing from the earthmoving side of CAT.
So if your driving is on highways you can get rid of that restrictive plumbing and go directly to a cyl head. This what I plan to do soon.

Well to each there own. That's why I would like to hear your results.
I had a truck with a 1lw in it. I had two ECM failures, and the only thing I contributed it to was the high fuel temps. The truck was plumbed to return fuel to only one tank, and after it has been running a while you could hardly touch the tank it was so hot. After the second ECM failed I changed the plumbing to return to both tanks and that cut the fuel temps in half. I didn't have any failures after that. Call it a coincidence , call it what you want, but they are cooled with fuel for a reason.

If you think air flow is going to cool it on its own, think of this. Your sitting on a 8% grade for 20 minutes on a 100 degree day with the fan on. Blowing hot air beside a ECM bolted to a engine running 200 degrees.

That ecm is cooled for a reason. Electronics devices can create tremendous amounts of heat.. this isnt a fair comparision but when Google built there new data center near here the pumps they installed to cool all the electronic stuff are capable of 300 gal per minute. Feel around a computer tower or laptop when its in steady use those things make considerable heat.

fwiw- I have bypassed the fuel goijng through the ecm , but spaced it off the block some similar to 6nz.....

    beltrans Thanks this.
