The arrogance and bias that some drivers have never ceases to amaze me. Like the one driver that told me in a truckstop one day, and I am quoting: "If you don't drive 600 miles a day, you're not a truck driver."

I'm used to it. I had the same thing when I was flying airplanes for a living. If you're not flying jets for an airline, you're not a professional pilot in the eyes of some guys. Umm... ok whatever. Meanwhile 90% of the pilots who think that way couldn't get the stuff I used to fly off the ground and back down again if their lives depended on it. One isn't better than the other, just different.

 

It seems that the smaller a person's own mind is, the further they will go out of their way to put themselves above someone else, in their own mind. Never let someones foolish opinion get you down. . .

 

So let me see if i can understand this: tonite if i submit an online app. that gets sent to all the major OTr carriers and i list my 21+ years of Daycab local experience, my last 17 years of LTL local peddle work averaging no less than 100 stops per week (deliveries and Pickups) , liftgate p/u & deliv, residential deliv, multiple mall deliv. inside deliv. Picking up while enroute to deliveries and moving freight all over the trailer and city driving, NOT 1 OTR carrier will give me a chance based on my resume?? WoW, i am deprived! I was hoping to Broaden my knowledge base by being a junior co-driver to an Ace lead driver with a Whopping 3 years of OTR experience. I always wanted to learn to stream internet porn while driving down the big road, i want to learn to urinate in something other than a Toilet or Urinal while driving my large car. My home time is starting to suck so i really want to gain experience sleeping in a bunk in a Walmart parking lot. Look, you can take the top OTR company you can name, good luck finding one of their drivers to match my driving experience. i,m sure they dont want to hire local drivers because they know we aint gonna put up with that Crapola that they dish out for their Crapola cents per mile. I know of not 1 driver out of our 250+ driver terminal that would even consider compromising their health, hygiene and lifestyle for OTR. I do have to admit it though, the whole wouldnt hire thing is about as Hilarious as it gets. Who in their right mind would even accept a job from them revolving door carriers even if one was offered.

 

Sure they will give you a job, but you are going to start at rookie pay. That's all I'm saying.

 

Hmmmm!!! Iv'e driven a daycab LOCAL P&D for 18 years, and Walmart just hired me for OTR...I guess they actually did care about my local experience

What's funny about it is the toughest driving I've ever done was a P&D route. I ran the same one for a few years in Pennsylvania and it was pretty challenging at times. I had a short single axle truck but it was paired with a 53' and that could get touchy at times. Granted, I could follow my own tracks into docks, but about once or twice a week I'd get some random residential or a mine site that was a nightmare.

A lot of the otr drivers are great drivers, but I'm sure everyone of us that have spent a lot of time on secondary roads have got a little aggravated when the highway hero can't run anything more than 10 under on the secondary road. In 2009 I had a line-haul run that was mostly Pa two lane and I always noticed the flatbed and bulk haulers were generally really good. The big company dry box drivers were the worst.

 

Hey guys , Let me ask you this, Is it normal with Conway to push class off untill others background checks clear ? Just curious if I should be concerned , I called to check on my start time and thats what I was told ?

should have told him if you cant bump 15-20 docks a day you re not a truck driver, i ve never done otr and i consider myself lucky in that department. Since i started i was local and honestly i wouldn't go otr for living but that's just me, i would go for a month or so just to drive through the country and see some things, other than im okay where i m at the moment. i m p&d and sure as hell enjoy it everyday i get to see some new people some old one and makes it interesting trying to back in tight alleys and what not, same dock might have to back up every day in a different way and makes me learn think and become better driver that way
