And the rates continue to fall like an anvil from an airplane...

Still on track for the $50K, I'll compile the numbers and update the thread when I get some time to do so. I can say that I've had 2 weeks in the last 5 months where I've earned less than $1000, so I'm definitely on track. I haven't updated that thread lately in part due to the heat I've taken from the haters.

Not to be a "hater" as you described, I honestly am interested to know if it is really worth all the headaches of being an o/o to make $50k a year, especially considering you have to pay your own payroll taxes, insurance, etc., etc., that would be taken care of if you were a company driver. Seems like you can make that with some companies without all the hassle. I just wonder, because I would really love to be an o/o, just from what I have read on here it doesn't make any financial or logical sense. Am I missing something?

i dont understand sitting for that amount of time, if the area is bad and the freight is too low, deadhead somewhere else

it will cost, but sitting costs also

As HD said, I am a company driver but I have the freedom to choose when and where I go with the truck. The 'haters' are the ones that insist on telling me that I know nothing about anything, and I can't possibly be doing what I'm doing because I just got my CDL in May and I haven't 'paid my dues' by spending a year with a bottom feeding carrier.

I completely agree; I simply decided to gamble and wait on that last-minute load that just HAD to be moved at any cost. It didn't materialize this time.
