Looks like while I have been away there has been some very interesting conversations going on which is nice to see. Just looking over with what was said while I have been away seriously busting out all the professionalism I have doing my best to show. I have learned allot this past while and I really like with what one of you said when you said it really is not always about the money that one makes.
Guess the question is have I found work? I have and I love it nor do I work out on the oilfields so it is a great gig for me. I know my boss IS looking for a few more good Class 1 and Class 3 drivers. Work I do is NOT easy it is VERY challenging and one has to get to know there rig as well as there trailer there pulling when it comes to the class 1 part of things.
I am doing waste driving right now so that means a few different things that I have seen with what I am doing. Personally I HATE driving but this works out great for me as I HAVE to stay busy. With this job one is 80% of the time an operator when you are picking up cans in route when you fill the trailer the other 20% of the job is driving to a landfill.
Most of our runs are not easy it is very high stress as you are always dealing with getting around things like fences vehicles watching out for kids list just goes on. A few of our runs are so challenging I know we NOW do not allow anyone new to do those runs as one is put in situations where you are having to jacknife your trailer around vehicles in turn arounds ect.
Job for me is fun I love it as the arm is controlled in the cab from a toggle switch box set up so once one gets very good at what they are doing picking cans away from fences so nothing is damaged as well as vehicles one does not get out of there truck often. Cheers all and good luck to those still looking I make MORE than enough for me and its an awsome gig being home every night with weekends off. -
I could care less what the Financial Post says, I'm telling you that drilling will be down 25% in British Columbia this winter. And that's a big drop from last winter.
It will continue until the price of Natural Gas goes up. The big jump will be when an LNG Plant s built at either Kitimat or Prince Rupert to export the gas to Asia. But what the hell do I know, I have only been around the patch in Alberta for 48 years.Last edited: Oct 14, 2012
Diletantte Driver, Onetrack and Fabrikator Thank this. -
What are the chances of that getting done??? Or should I say, "what are the chances of that getting done with BC's premier still in office"??

Ok Im planning to fly out to Edmonton on Thursday, rent a vehicle, and apply in person at the companies in the surrounding areas.
Is it worth it for me, to drive 5-6 hours to Ft Mac, and apply out there as well, considering my position (new class 1 driver, no experience).
Thanks in advance. Lots of great information and advice on here. -
I just asked something similar. Read the last few pages -
Nothing beats walking into their office and showing initiative and persistance. It worked for me! The more doors you walk through, the better your chances!!

All the permits and environmental approvals are in place for the Apache/EOG project and the others are well on their way.
Not sure where you're getting your information about BC politics, the BC liberal party has turned this Provinces economy around and have saved us from the disaster the NDP left us in. The current BC govt is in full support of the LNG projects, also they have rebooted the mining industry from a complete shutdown to a booming industry with new mines opening up regularly. Just sayin.Last edited: Oct 14, 2012

Some people don't know the difference between Natural Gas and Crude Oil.
I have already done some preliminary budgeting on stockpiling the pipe for Apache/EOG and another group.
300 KMS of 42 inch of 80 foot long pipe and and 188 kms of 42 inch 60 foot pipe. The 80 foot will require over $3 Million in pilot car charges alone. The total just to stockpile this pipe is in excess of $24 Million bucks. The 60 foot pipe doesn't require Pilot Cars.
If all the pipe was 60 foot only, the costs of BUILDING the line would increase more than the pilot car charges due to welding costs.
It costs about 33% more in welding costs for 60 foot than it does for 80's. -
Sign me up if you get this job! ill come haul some pipe for you
