Opinion From everyone out there

I normally do not give newbies advice on this question. I am going to post a thread why sometime. But you have asked it in a very logical way and you seem to have done your homework. So thank you for that.

If you want to drive a truck over the road then you need over the road experience. Driving with your friend for six months would give you that. Driving LTL local will not. Driving LTL will teach you more. You will learn to back up quicker and you will have to do lots of stopping and starting. Those are the most difficult things to do. But you will most likely be in a day cab and they are a lot easier then sleepers to back.

What YOU have to decide is which way do YOU want to go. They are too different to compare. Driving a truck is only a part of the job.

I have done Local, OTR, and LTL. OTR gives you more options in the future. Some OTR companies will not hire folks with LTL and Local experience only. Everyone hires OTR drivers. Start with OTR but don't burn any bridges.

 

Go wth the LTL reefer company; the pay is better.
You will never regret having reefer experience.
That experience will open many opportunities in the future.

 

I would definitely take the percentage gig over the Swift gig. Just make sure to ask what their drivers are earning weekly before committing. You just may end up with a good driving job right off the bat.
