Knowing it was a NJ company, this is how you could have handled it, perhaps to your greater benefit:
"Yeah, ABC Trucking...."
"Ya hirin'?"
"Come down and fill out an app"
"K".
End of conversation.

Didn,t think there were any rude people left in NJ or NY. Thought they all moved to FL (retire) or to Las Vegas to be a taxi driver. Well I guess this is what I get for thinking.
Marksteven Thanks this. -
At the risk of inviting flames, I don't consider New Yorkers rude. Now, get a little bit further up north, up and around Mass. and I've seen the middle finger more in that area than anywhere in the country, and I live in one of the areas where many folks say we have the worst drivers around, which I tend to agree with. A little rain here and people act like they've never seen it before.Marksteven Thanks this.

AMEN!!!!!! Massachusetts sucks to drive in. Absolutely sucks. God forbid they see a cop pulled over on the other side of the road.SCREEEEECH! Get ready to DIE if there is a sign that says "bump" !!! SCCCRRRREEEEEEECCCCHHHHH!

That would be the worst job ever! Not a big fan of people.
Always a good idea to know who you're fighting/arguing with. I worked for a small family owned company who's Receptionist, was also Payroll. Never tick off the person that writes your check.
She was a complete and total ###### too....but I just kept my mouth shut. -
Totally misssed the point. I dont want to fill out an app fpr a place that dpesnt have an intention pf hiring. The woman was being lazy, i asked her a question and she didnt want to get up and ask someone. Plain and simple. Im cool with that, but dont insult me in doing so.
-
So in essence the answer to my questikn wasnt answered then. -
True most are ignorant but thats in every state as well. And in nj there are nice people too.like every every sate. I dont care of its nj or the moon. you treat people how you want to be treated. But being from jersey i guess i can dish it out too. Lol i called backand said, " your rude, i wouldnt consider working for your co." Anyways the reason for the posting is npt to state a complaint and whine or to argue with others who disagree but to let any drivers who think of supply one about my experience. Thwy can take it or leave it.

Personally, I see TWO lazy people there.
The receptionist for not "getting up to check" (though she don't work for YOU, and does'nt have to do anything for you).
And YOU for not going in to fill out an application.
She does'nt know if they are hiring....so how do you know if you don't get your application in? An application is the FIRST step of 'hiring'....not a phone call. You want a job there....get an application in. Wanna keep making phone calls from your couch? You are succeeding! -
How do YOU know that she "doesn't know if they're hiring?" She never said as much. The bottom line is she did not answer his question. period. Anything else is subjective assumption. If she didn't know she simply could have said so but she didn't. That's a large assumption on your behalf that "she doesn't know."
