I will add a bit more to my last post as far as fuel goes its done the same way as Central so you don't need a lot of cash it's nice to have some tucked away untill you start seeing the pay checks insurance is an out of pocket expens. Please understand there's a big difference between an O/O and a L/O as for central it's a just making the payments to drive there truck if you wanted to bye the truck after your lease was up it would cost you around $50,000.00 to $60,000.00 to do so after all those payments 3 1/2 years then another 2 to 3 years for the balance.

Central has no O/Ops the ones who pull there trailers own or are byeing outside of central these people are lease opps running under Centrals authority and base plates.

Yes but there are better companies to lease onto for less percentage L/S is in the mid 30tys you can find them for under 15% just need to look. The plus about Landstar is if your trucks breaks down they will help you with the money thing if need be. But your right Landstar is a perfect example and you don't need your own authority to lease to them your truck needs to be 97 or 98 and newer.

Its not only an O/O w/Authority who makes more the average Lease Op with Central!

We purchased our truck in July 2011 $7500 cash, JJ drove it home and we parked it while we continued to work as company drivers, JJ filled out the paper work for us to Lease onto Landstar and they took forever to get it squared away TG.

Anyway to make a long story short the motor Hydrolocked and we found out we would have to rebuild the motor:biggrin_25513: So we did some reseach found a shop and had the motor rebuilt while we continued to work as company drivers, 10 months after we purchased the truck we were ready to go out as O/Os.

Both JJ and I read the thread whenever we have a chance and found the company we leased onto here on the truckers report and we couldn't be happier!

Like Jess and Lextec we run the posted speed limits :biggrin_25525: Why because we can lol!

As an O/O you have to get into the mindset that miles mean NOTHING its the revenue per mile, BUILDING relationships with brokers so they call you, going out of your way for a customer who you think might be a repeat customer has payed of big time for us!

You can't learn any of that through Central the only way you will learn is to get out and do it!

Unless things have changed at Central? You guys don't get to deal with Brokers, Please correct me if im wrong.

If you want to start out as an O/O with a brand new truck then yes it would be extremely hard with a huge truck payment, but most start out with an older truck (Probably not as old as our 97 shaker) with small or no payments!

Lone Mountain has trucks that you only need $4500 down and a $1300-$1500 payment a month, and they deal with bad credit OR save your money and pay cash for an older truck!

We also don't get a recruiting bonus for for any drivers that decide to Lease to Farm2Fleet because we told them how good we have it lol.

Does Central still pay the recruiting bonus to the Lease Ops who get someone else to Lease?

yea central wont let people lease there own trucks unless you got it from them, its not in there intrests. i will admit it im a central lease but for me this company is a steping stone and being as young as i am cant get too much better, due to insurance age restrictions at most companies. my personal expenses are close to nothing im young no kids or wife so its not really an issue with pay. im banking most of it anyway. and i can be gone as long as needed. i figure get in here pay my dues take that next step to landstar or somthing better, then eventualy take that next step get my own athority some day. i have a question tho i keep hearing about these gliders on the road dog trucking on xm but idk if thats a type of truck or some kind of kit ect. dose anybody know?

Does anybody in here run a good dedicated route or regional? I almost lost it starting out. No miles and I haven't made under 30K/yr in a long time. Then miles came and I started doing what I had to to get more miles every week. Things jumped back over 30, and then I went regional running up an down the interstate around Chicago. I only have to run 2,000 miles to have a good week now. Some of the runs are really tight and I end up splitting 8/2 at least once every two weeks. It's not bad though because when I do, it's usually run seven hours, grab a washout, take ten and back to running. I actually ran into one of the drivers out of my class last night and she's doing similar work on a dedicated fleet with guaranteed miles. I guess my real question is if we are getting these jobs as newbies, why aren't people staying in them? The money is good and it's usually only hard when you don't plan properly or you do something stupid like miss the only exit for 15-20 miles, lol. They'd have to convince me I'd make 60+ a year to move now. Should I be prepared for the good times to end?

6pak is right with the numbers. I owned the Trk when I was at central, and leased. Yes I purchased at the end. It was a little more, but because I did a 18 month lease not new, total for lease and buy cost was about equal to Trk value at the beginning of the lease. After I purchased and stayed with central my take home was about 66% of miles. So 3000 miles was $2000. I payed Trk payment not central and also had no maitnence taken out as I did it all myself. Average central pay was $1.37 per mile revenue. My new company pays percentage and I average $1.87 all miles. Not land star either. They are almost the same as far as central, no real load picking, no brokers, it all goes thru a dm. I do stay more regional to the Michigan area. Home weekends. I average the same amount take home here as I did at central with a student on he Trk. So yes 6pak is right, central does not pay that great. They worked as a start, but not a career company.

Most people I know on those dedicated got sick of the down time. You get more cpm but less miles. So if you like the gig, great. But that was the most common complaint I heard. Well that and one of the dm's, who got fired I heard, was a big complaint also.
