No worries I understand the95 part everyone does it just being technical
    As
4 the OC Honestly many reasons or just
after near 40 years runin there it is habit-
Anyway assuming u run the pike&pay tolls(I don't)exit 13 is a pain don't like the N/S merge or the corkscrew
going up-2 many opportunities 4 problems. On
The OC- much easier(safer)approach-then just b4 steel miss the left curve slightly(old trick scares the 4 wheelers from trying to pass)then straddle zipper all thru steel thru open road Toll and gone--but all in all just how I. Happen 2 prefer 2 do. Besides if u r on like NB it is cheaper-oh in case u r wonderin--if I am SB I run I to SI from 440 on north side
    Thru port Newark
    Just my $.02

The 17 crossing is the Bear Mountain Bridge!! Great for motorcycles, not good for trucks. (it's a scenic route that avoids those smelly big rigs, don't cha know. The GPS gremlin has lied to you again.)

Sounds like you're coming from the North. Take 17, to 87 (NYS Thruway) Cross at the Tappan Zee Bridge, (not bad at night or against commuting traffic) Take 87 STRAIGHT South to NYC (locals don't go that way because of the toll.) The Cross Bronx (95) is actually better and less confusing than the LIE (495) So take that to the Whitestone Bridge, That will take you to the Van Wick Expressway. Boom You're right at JFK.

PS do not take any parkways.

Bear mountain is rte 6. I love taking that route: up and over "the goatpath". I pull out of a plant 4 miles south of it on the east side. Scares the fourwheelers but good when I come largecar-ing around the corner. The toll taker can hear me coming soon as I get to the top with all the sound reflecting off the stone face next to me :) Bwahahahaha!

Follow rte 17 from Binghamton south with your finger on the map in the Road atlas ;)

I love taking a ride through the city at nite. All the lights and buildings look different. You don't see most of the dirty/ ugly stuff in the streetlights at 65 :)

My question is this. Going into jfk. My company say's that I need a New york city permit to run down there. The route is GW to 678 south to jfk. Is it true that A NYC "OD" permit is needed. Any truck wider than 96" or longer than 45' the company say' a permit is needed.

NO--if it was Fed Ex would never get in and out every night!!
Don't sweat it--just do your thing
But depending on where you are coming from that is the expensive way--just sayin
Oh and I hope you aren't going anytime soon!

Your supposed to have a NYC permit to run the 5 boroughs but i've never had an issue going in or out. I have heard though there cracking down on trucks with out it. NYC has some weard rules for trucks. If your company is paying for the permit better safe than sorrry. Depending where your comeing from the GW to 678 is a nightmare lately because of construction. I would seek a difrent route.
