How about the reg about being able to read and write English ? Would you enforce that one?
-
Ha Ha that would be the day. I pulled rail cans for awhile and I would bet 70% if not more don't speak english. Hodgi guys everywhere. There is a steel hauler up north of me and I would be willing to say they have over half of their drivers from below the line and speak no english. Lets start cracking down.
-
Yep, I've recommended termination on drivers that could understand/communicate in English. Trust me, that one hits close to home because it's nearly impossible to teach a driver that does not comprehend english eLogs.volvodriver01 Thanks this.

That is my point. You don't drive a truck. Probly never driven one so you have no clue what goes on out there. All you think about is the companies bottom line, nothing about the driver and his/her bottom line. You probly careless if a driver makes 300 dollars a week or a 1500 dollars a week.
Oh and if you don't realize this yet, the more money a driver is making then the more money the company is making. If the driver is not hitting everything in sight and parking the truck in the ditch a few times a year then leave the dam driver alone. he/she already knows what they are doing and how they can do it safely.
If a driver has a host of recordables and other dot violations then by all means, mandate their truck has Elogs or EOBR in the truck. If the driver is a rookie then put them in as a probationary item.
Why screw with drivers that don't have problems?????
Our safety director take great joy in going through everything in our pay packet to find even the slightest thing wrong. If she finds something then boom we just lost our safety bonus for that month. She was bragging not too long ago about how much money she saved our boss by not handing out safety bonuses. Problem was that DOT found these drivers compliant even though she did not. Did not sit too well with many of the drivers.
She is the same safety director that had no clue about the North Dakota Ag exemptions and that we did not have to log anything that had to do with hauling farm product with in a certain radius. I had to give her all the links etc that pointed to the regulations reguarding Ag exemptin North Dakota. She is the same director that says some of our drivers can't log off duty driving to go 20 ish miles home in an empty truck.
I wish all safety directors had to get in a truck with that particular company and spend 3 months doing what their drivers are doing before they can sit behind the desk.
Same goes for the dispatchers in the company. -
Yeah, about that. I also know that my job gets easier when I'm not training a new group of drivers every week...so turnover is a high priority for me. We take a proactive coaching approach, of the drivers I talk to, and I don't bother looking at their checks, they tell me they're taking home greater than 1500 per week. We seek ways to increase utilization to get the most for the drivers, if they're tired and need break regardless of the load I'm the go to guy. I'll fight that fight with anyone in the organization. You guys see safety as the enemy, where I work safety is your friend. Don't get me wrong people still get pissed at us because there are regulations that we need to follow, but whatever we can do to increase utilization we'll do.

They aren't keeping the stats separately. The facts are fatigue does lead to crashes.
-
You have to admit it would be an interesting study, and if you can get funding to study how awesome bacon is than you should be able to get funding to see if there is a benefit* for running eLogs (*crash reduction)volvodriver01 Thanks this.
-
Actually, the more the company can make, the more the drivers can make. Your priorities are backwards.
BTW, she is correct about driving off duty. If the company doesn't allow it, it is not allowed. Don't like it, leave the truck at the yard and burn your own gas, or fuel. -
Thank You sir...
