For Those Who Went From Paper Logs to Electronic

i have been at this a very long time NEVER had a company force me to run,they would just hand us bills say do the best you can,so now all i hear is how co makes you do things this is better and if you werent there way back when well i felt a lot safer on rt 35 thru wva when it was a skinny rd than now,than maybe everybody should stop listening to trainers that WERENT there and lay off us experienced drivers,we had respect from law and cars then do you have that now.i think not

 

Hey k7tkr, not sure if you are addressing my concerns or other posts that coincide with your counter-argument. I don't think it is the customers' fault every time, but there are some that are COMPLETELY at fault. I would be silly to think of those small businesses you are referring to and even maybe pathetic, if I thought compensation should come about in a driver error (being late) situation. So, I'm definitely not talking about that!

I agree with you and was definitely thinking along the same lines of better HOS regulations. The only way the government is going to fix them, is if enough drivers and driver advocates (who knows, maybe even the customers!) work with them - maybe more hours than most drivers have time for, but just like anything else, if it is worth the fight, it's worth putting even an hour a day toward achieving a better solution.

If safety doesn't work out to be as safe as they thought it would be by using elogs, they need to hear the legitimate, documented concerns. Right? Otherwise, there ya go, part of the problem!

 

I think you're probably right about that. Going to have to hit rock bottom before the government says "oops".

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I haven't seen anywhere else on the forum that fits...

My husband is a company driver and is new to e-logs. I don't know whether he's overlooking something or not, but he doesn't see a way to get his recap. His company uses the Qualcomm MCP200; anyone know if there is a way to recap your hours other than writing them down separately?

 

you can log into Qualcomm and download his daily stuff.

But you have to get that information from his logging department.

 

Should be a soft button on the e-log page to bring up the last 8 days. Shouldn't need the recap- those calculations are done by the e-log u less he just got one or logged in to a new one (new for him-like getting on another truck) or the e-log failed (which happens). When any of these happen and the driver is forced back to paper, the driver needs to have that recap. For my outfit as well, I can go to safety or my FM and get my last recorded 8 days if need be.

 

If you r an o/o e log would make you lost good loads on weekends thus what a company drivers expects and what o/o want two different things do not compare apples and oranges i go tx with multi stop load eats my 55 hours then if i pick a load going east or west i dont have enough hours to make it on time if i wait for restart i miss weekend good paying loads where is the good money in that

 

I am an O/O, have been for years. An E-log will not stop me from any loads. My HOS could, though, regardless of paper or E-log.

 

I have the same view on e-logs as I have on e-readers (kindle, etc) . . . I prefer to have the real thing in my hands than have to rely on a computer, batteries, etc . . .

 

On the other hand- regarding Kindle etc.... sure can store a lot more books on an sd card then the shelf in my sleeper. And before anyone gets wise, I do get her point.
