Well, after much deliberation I've decided to go with Roehl. I'm filling out additional paperwork for Cheryl. Hope to be able to attend Phase One in Georgia. I had several preHires and was also looking at Central Refrigeration out of Utah...for the opportunity to travel the West. But when you look closer, Central is a company who has LOWERED driver pay whereas Roehl is increasing. That speaks volumes of where the companies are headed. Then again, as a new driver just starting out, who really wants to fight the winter conditions in the mountain states with no experience? Looking forward to the future and a true "second" career!

I just have no desire to go to Canada. I've heard of long wait times going in and going out and the winters are bad. I've heard good things as well too that its not that bad so like everything else I could be over exaggerating like usual. But I'm pretty content on staying stateside. They pay more going in and out.

I haven't drove a big rig across into Canada but I've been there hunting/fishing and snowboarding (and the occasional drunken weekend in highschool lol) a lot. It can be a long wait to get in or out sometimes. Sometimes they wanna search the whole vehicle and stuff so that can take awhile. But driving up there can be a little hairy at times lol. Depends on where you go but I will say that in Quebec, they have a whole different view on what speed limit means, especially the farther north you get. I would doubt that you would see anything to far north but if ya did watch out for log trucks! Those boys HAUL ###!!! I learned to drive up there when I was 10. After a day of fishing dad would take me out on the long never ending log roads that are wide and either sand or stone. The turns are usually big long sweeping turns and you always wanna hug the inside cause you will meet a log truck eventually rolling around one at 80 mph plus! Them boys don't mess around that's for sure! I went snowboarding once with a bunch of buddies and my one buddy driving had just about a nervous breakdown in some city because he hates driving in traffic he gets nervous and the trucks and cars were just whipping all around us and he would spazz out everytime a truck flew up next to us and passes and cut us off. Needless to say I had him pull over so I could drive before he killed us lol. Quebec is also the most unfriendly territory up there. Majority of the people are French so it's hard to understand a lot of them and they will rip you off or steal your stuff in a heart beat!! Going snowmobiling up there I've seen entire sleds stripped over night. Even seen tongues of trailers cut off that we're attached to pickups!!! A lot of hotels now have gated lots with 24hr security guards to park your sleds/trucks/trailers in. It's a awesome place to go but man will they steal and rip ya off because your American! Just Becareful where you park and lock your doors at all times!!

Going in isn't to bad I think. Getting out of Canada is what I hate. I always get harassed by the idiot homeland security guys.

Looking at Roehl, I but don't want to drive a Freightliner. What are the chances I will get a Volvo, Pete, or Int'l???

Might I ask why what's the deference in a truck as long as ur making money right I've driven roehls internationals very nice I'm in a 13 prostar plus that I love and wouldn't give up for anything but its all the same I'm making money

I've been doing a lot of research into all aspects of every company I'm considering for employment. I've noticed a lot of folks complain about the Freightliners, but not about the other trucks. I'm sure there really isn't that much difference, as you said...money is the goal, but I am curious as to how the the truck assignment process works. Thanks! -
Luck of the draw between FL, Volvo and International. Most new hires get prostars or cascadias. If you get a late model fl Columbia you might like it better than a new trucks. My trainers cascadia was awesome and the prostar I'm in now I like a lot. The Columbia are getting phased out pretty quick so if you do get one it won't be long b4 your out of it. So they say. Lol. It's really hit or miss, it's easier to decide where you test out what truck you'll get. The closer to Marshfield WI you get the better chance of a new truck In my opinion
