Hey guys, I have a question about your driver's seat in your cab. What is your biggest complaint about it?
I am planning to refurbish one for a family member as a gift for XMAS. I can do upholstery work on a professional level just not so much in this area. I want to put a personal touch to it.
What would make a seat a killer seat? I figure if I can't ask him, I'll ask someone who spends thousands of hours sitting on one.
For starters, it will be heated and cooled, top and bottom.
Thanks in advance, have a safe trip.

Needs to have a stinch remover...to get all the farts out instantly

moosc and Buffalo Chip Thank this. -
Built-in massager would be nice.

As far as biggest complaint? It rattles and squeaks when I'm parked and idling. -
Personally I hate heated seat my wifes car has them and they get turned by accident and I start wondering if I just peed myself. lol Now a heated back would good and a cooler for the seat and back would be nice. Leather for the front half of the seat and on the side bolsters as the seem to get dirty the quickest. good quality cloth that is water and stain resistance also need to be able to withstand the Pucker factor of seeing your trailer in the hammer lane while your in the granny lane

Leather, Really easy to clean.

Throw away that seat and get a used one out of a ford econoline conversion van. These seats have springs in them like your couch and are awsome. Any truck seat is padding and then wood. Try this and you will never wanna get out of ur truck.

The "suspension and glider" are more important than the padding and heat/cool extras(IMO)you will also find that is where the most expense is.That being said if you can find a driver/owner operator pitching his "junk"factory seats in his 2011-12 pete or kw for a pair of the "low-rider" wide rides then you could reapolster one of those take outs.(ask at your local dealer the last two seats I bought were take-outs of brand new trucks) If they are a big boy/girl they make a few that are built for it. Also, for what its worth (and this is just me I'm not looking for a argument) think long and hard about the heat/cool/massage stuff, just more stuff to break under the stress and vibration of the job you are asking to do. All of the auto seats and there toys are designed to be used 1-2 hrs a day,and your going to expect it to work 10-14 hrs a day,I promise you they won't last. Even the factory heated seat in my KW only lasted about 18 months. If I custom built one and $ was no object, I think i would get a standard stool wide ride or pro ride with the extra dampener(shock) and find someone like you to re-foam it with some of that memory foam cooling gel stuff they are making mattresses out of now.
moosc Thanks this. -
Just think long lasting and comfortable on the butt and back. very good interior foam and such heat and cooling is a personal thing, but remember he is gonna be in that thing anywhere from 8 to 12 hours a day!

I have had no back pain or complaints of any kind spending all day and night in these seats. A friend let me try his out and i liked it so much i took the two rear captains chairs out of my 97 E 150 van. I have used it for over two years and my other buddy has a set in his and he loves em. Remember, conversion van seats not factory seats. My buddy, Bigg Smooth, is 350 lbs and they support his big butt too! U will be a believer if u try them.
