I have t2000 , 2006 with ISX475, eaton 13. and i am about to buy another truck t2000 with ISX400 but its upgraded to 500HP. My question is:
these 2 engines are they the same? Other then HP. I spoke with representative from Cummins and he told me that ISX Engines 400-550 are all the same its just that they been upgraded and have different HP. Is this true?

I'm no expert but here goes.

They are all the same basic engine. Those above 500hp would probably have different injectors and possibly a few other things as well. I believe what I was told when I contacted Cummins was that you have a range of 100hp on a particular engine. Therefore, if it was rated at 400hp the highest it could be turned up is 500hp without changing hardware.

Dear friends it is possible on the same engin to have difrent specs available with the software upgrade to have different valve timing and more or less power to acheive your desired power rating & fuel consumption. there is nothing to be changed in the hardware though.

    regards

I think he's full of it... 100HP is way too much to tackle with a software only. Reasonable number would be in a range of 25-50HP. I once been told by a Cummins NA clown rep that my 500/1850 wouldn't go up without different injectors, oil cooler and different timing gear. My Cummins dealer made an upgrade to 550/1850 without problems, saying that if I ever need to go higher I would need all that hardware changed. IMO 400 to 500 with soft only is not possible.

They are the same the lower hp truck was prally speced by a company it also prally has a different drive-line,clutch and trans, it is true a cummins dealer will not take uprate the motor over what the clutch driveline and trans are speced for. You can however get pdi to flash it over the 500hp, although i personally would not go over 550 with the current set up you have

I have 2008 ISX400 (ex walmart truck) When i had camshaft replaced i asked to up my HP from 400 to 500 and they said i can only go to 450. So for $230 i got 50 more HP. Torque not changed.
