Glad to hear it! Doesn't happen to a lot of folks, (although it may with your company.)

LOL where do they find these trainers?

Ill never get over the guy who said his trainer went home and made him sit out in the truck on the street for 2 days....The trainer wouldnt let him leave or use the bathroom and only brought him out hot dogs to eat every once in a while.:biggrin_25513:

My first trainer went on hometime during my training. It's pretty bad to supposed to spend 4 days at a truck stop when you only get 2 weeks out with a trainer. I ended up taking a bus to NYC and roamed the city on my own. The whole 2nd week was a clusterF.... I just can't learn when someone isn't helpful, calling me stupid, and, telling me that 99% of the women he had trained shouldn't be near a truck. I didn't get any practice backing.... and all the freaking talking on the phone.... man... But, oh, was he happy that I have some major highway driving endurance.

Luckily my 2nd was a great lady trainer. I was out with her for 10 days.

Now I'm upgraded, but, stuck at home. ugh! My partner was supposed to pick me up, but, she ends up getting suspended. :biggrin_2554:

Luckily my DM was out last week or I'd still be stuck in AR. He actually told me I had to have a truck before I could ask for hometime. LOL The lady standing in for him got me a assignment bobtailing a brand new international (with 981 miles) that needed to go to Irving. Lucky me, that's home.

I took home time for 3 days with my first trainee, years ago. Well, more like late evening-full day-full day-early morning. So 3 nights/2 days. But I asked him if it was ok, and he said yes without hesitation cuz he was still on salary.

    BUT!

I parked at a truckstop, gave him full access to anything in the truck for entertainment (tv + tons of DVDs), there were lots of places to go check out while he was there, and I slipped him a $50 to cover showers and a couple meals. I also was in contact with him multiple times, and even went back over to the truckstop halfway though and took him to eat with me and the g/f.

Another reason he said yes, was because any time we went thru his home area, i'd park the truck in front of his house and he spent the night at home (2-3 times over 4 weeks).

I also had a "rewards program". Every week that he continued to do good, he'd get treated to a #### good meal and something for his truck when he went solo. Week 1 was a nice portfolio that held tons of crap. Week 2 was a Trucker's Atlas. Week 3 was an $80 moped rental in Vegas for the night, all the gas paid, meals paid, etc. Week 4 was a flashlight and tire-thumper.

Know why I did tall that? Because he did good, made me some extra money by running hard, and because THAT'S HOW I WAS TREATED AS A TRAINEE. Key point there. You reap what you sow.

Sorry OP got screwed. My first Trainer back in 02 when I started driving was a joke. Swift O/O. Didn't learn nothing from him. Dude crawled in the sleeper on night 1, and spent maybe 5 hours in the front with me during the 8 days I was with him. Took a load out, brought one back, he went home for the night and I was in another Trainer's truck within 4 hours. And HE was awesome.

Now, I'm new to the game, but I'm not stupid. After I go to dinner, go to the movies sleep and wash up...I'm ready to get paid, somebody is going to pay me for sitting around. If I got the keys I'm ready to start up the truck and go. I can see right now I need to adjust my attitude...does this ever really happen? Somebody tell me the truth.

Trainee was on $300 salary and was and is not allowed to move the truck without a trainers permission.

Well, the truth is that it could happen. But it SHOULD NOT. And if it does, the trainee would be darned stupid to just sit on his butt and not contact the company about it.
