Greetings Im new to this sight and wish to bring any help or technical advise towards transport refrigerated units.
If you pull reefer trucks or trailers and are looking for basics on the operation to minimize anxiety of losing an expensive load. I may be able to provide good sound advise.
If you own your own reefer and need technical advise in servicing it, as it will save you a costly repair bill, let me know i will try to help out the best I can.
I am not a truck driver by trade but I do have a CDL A with all endorsements,

Welcome to the forum Shawn! I used to haul reefers, and may go back to it at some point, but I must say the newer reefers are awesome in every way. Quiet, almost idiot-proof (don'r run it out of fuel!) and getting lighter.
Have you dealt with a lot of the new super spreads (12')? I have started seeing more and more of them, but if the 10'6" spreads are a pain then I'd hate to deal with a 'super'! -

I second that vote! This will be an interesting thread to view as I will be starting training soon with a company hauling reefer's and would like to get as much information as possible.

WHATEVER YOU DO, make sure you never let it run out of fuel. Top off often on hot days that it runs a lot. I had ice cream across the desert and tried to make it, I had to fill up in Lake Havazu and it was a ##### to get started. I mean, near impossible.

When I was with KLLM, I had to have my truck taken to Freightliner in Sacramento to get a new turbo. I emptied out prior to going, but as luck would have it was given back 26 cases of Reddi Whip. I was instructed to keep the reefer running as they were going to try to find a place for the freight. That was just too much to throw away. I made sure the reefer was full before I got to the dealership, but after 4 days it ran out. KLLM had someone come out and restart it after putting some fuel in it. I think they only put about 5 gallons in the tank. The turbo for the truck was supposed to be in the next day and the 5 gallons would've been more than enough had the part arrived. Since it didn't arrive on that Friday, the reefer ran out of fuel again and had to be refueled/restarted once again. This time it was filled with about 25 gallons as they knew it would be at least Monday before the truck was ready. The 26 cases of Reddi Whip was ruined and ended up being thrown away. I'm sure glad I wasn't responsible for all the money spent on that reefer just for freight that ended up being thrown away.

Hi yes i have delt and serviced all makes and models in the transport especially super II, I actually started as a truck/trailer technician, and did that for a few years and when i got a job as an apprentice,in servicing tru, it was all over I found my passion and knack for life. and yes never run out of fuel, very bad for the injection sytem to run dry not to mention a costly service bill to repurge and prime.
speaking of fuel system remeber to add power plus or some type of fuel additive that will prevent gelling, espercially for drivers or the fleets that cross the Dixie line, this new fuel is freezing and gelling in warmer temps of say 20 degrees.

Thanks yopu perform driver training? very awsome, it am a trainer and instructor fopr driver meetings and technicians. I like it alot, i was doin it for a Tk dealership in Rochester, just recently decided to brake off and do it on my own.

yes the newer Units are tougher to purge dut to the check valve located have in the fuel water seperator filter.
I will provide a good tip here for future priming, I have several O/O friends that i have helped utilize the air sytem or air tank supply for airing up tires through normal air hose that couple the the tank. I f some of you here are familiar with this migshift design then you know what im talking about.
Any way the reefer fuel tank has a check valve that has only one way operation allows air to come in the tank to occupy the space with pressure to prevent tank from going into vaccum as fuel is being drawn from the tank. next time you lose purge or prime due to running out of fuel,
1. refill the fuel tank
2. take that megshift air hose you have made with a rubbertipped blow gun and put air into the tank through the brass check valve on the tank, NOTE!!! safety first you only need to around 3-5 psi of pressure in the tankl for this to be effective. use a regultaor if your do not feel you have an accurate or close to estimate.
3. the tank will hold that pressure because of the check valve,
4. open the reefer door s and locate the little hand pump, most reeferdoors will have the purge an prime instruction on the reefer inside door.
pump the primer for an estimated 100 times. then try to start .
99% of the time you will have a start with out problems,
