Howdy.
I would like some thoughts on wheel size for tractors.
I hear some people say that 22.5 give better mileage, others say that 24.5 rides smoother.
Personally I think Trucks with 24.5 wheels look better.....What are y'alls thoughts?
Thanks!

I think 24.5's look better,,,and have 24.5 on all my equipment!!!
22.5 seem to be far more popular,,,,tire shops seem to stock far more tires in the 22.5 than they do in 24.5!!ZJXander Thanks this. -
In Aus 24.5" wheels are nearly unherd of. Everyone runs 22.5". Alot of guys are going 22.5" with low profile and even down to 19.5" low profile on trailers. Wheels and tyres are cheaper, and less rolling resistance. That's for highway trucks offroad is about different but still 22.5"

I think 24.5 ride better and look better. They also weigh more, have higher FET tax, and in LP are much harder to find on the road.

i use 24.5 on my truck but i'm in to logging so i need the ground clearance

24.5 turns less times per mile (475) vs 22.5 vs a 20" at (525 ) so in theory you should get better fuel mileage and less wear from a 24.5 BUT they are more expensive.
The taller tire is better for tanker work too as it's difficult to get lbs off the drivers where the tilt created by the taller tire does this for you.
It's a matter of choice and application IMO........ZJXander Thanks this. -
24.5's get a little worse fuel mileage, not better. This is due to the larger contact patch and also the latest efficient tires are available in 22.5LP only.
As far as ride, 11r22.5 and 11r24.5 will ride better than the low profile tires. A 11r22.5 will ride better than a 24.5 LP tire.ZJXander Thanks this. -
Both have pros and cons. Bigger tire weighs more and costs more. Spins slower so less centrifugal force at high speeds (deforms tire). More load capacity at less inflation pressure than smaller tire. That means better ride assuming it's inflated properly.
Smaller tire costs less to replace and won't bust your nuggets as much if you do your own tire work.ZJXander Thanks this. -
Tall 22.5 and tall 24.5 TYPICALLY have a greater casing trade value. I have got up to $50 on LP 22.5 but I've never recieved a penny for a LP 24.5. I run tall 22.5 on everything now. I think the LP 24.5 are the best looking though!
