I used all of the tricks listed and all of them do work. I purchased a Sta-Rat a few months back (and some tandem stoppers) just to eliminate the need to get in/out of the truck for repeated attempts and adjusted (still a newbie I guess). They work great, but are not cheap. Before spending the money try all of the hints offered in this post and see if one of them works for you.

A tarp strap put on the right way and then rocking the trailer. Low cost not complicated works very well.

I use a nylon strap to hold the handle up if needed, the type that would be used in a box van for HHG. I detailed cars in the past, and wheel cleaner works pretty good on the slides at times. The sledge and finding someone to help would be a last resource. When driving a real nice truck, you can almost feel when the pins are lose if its a some-what OK trailer. The trailers coming off trains always gave me the toughest times.

I too have tried all the tips given here. I have to move my tandems a lot. On my trailer, I have to get it just right to get the pins to move, then I have to lock the handle out with Vise Grips. One night this pass summer, during a rain storm, I had to back up and pull up and get in and out of the cab nearly 10 times be fore I found the spot that the pins would move. Then while putting on the Vise Grips to lock the handle out, I lost my balance and sat in about 2 inches of water. That was the last straw. I did a search on this board and read a post about Sta Rat. The best money I've spent for a tool. I like it so well, I bought a second one for a spare. And it does work just like the video.

All you really need is a can of PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench...even WD40 or dish soap solution will do in a pinch. I've had guys offer to help though.

Locking vise-grips....... and a hammer if 1 pin holds it up.

The Sta-Rat is the best tandem lever puller ever made. I won't truck (van or reefer) without one ever again.

silver dollar and Trucking Popeye Thank this.
