You pay 100 when they offer you a position in class to hold your spot. They don't run tons through the schools so I assume they want to make sure the person is showing a commitment to show up and start the program. Than you pay 400 on the third day of class which is applied to the 2500 cost of the class room / range training portion of the program. If you decide it's not for you they have a pro rated scale of getting some of the 400 back, not sure on the exact amounts and time frame etc I didn't need to bother with it.

Condo- When I was researching options for 6 months prior to making a career move I looked at a bunch of different options. Millis was the best fit for myself, and everyone will have different circumstances. I happened to be looking to switch careers and had a long steady work history with the same employer ( BTW - I am kind of what I think they mostly look for to be honest, they are small scale so I believe they can be selective ) .... I thought I recieved pretty good training I have no complaints at all. It worked out for me personally. I finish the training and I basically owe them 2500 in weekly payments until paid off plus 1 year of commitment to repay the over the road training portion ( Which if you had to repay it would be another 2500 ). Now for me even if I didn't like the place I was working at, one year to work at a place is not long at all especially for anyone who is obligations and responsibilities such as kids, mortgage etc. If you finish the program you don't need job placement, you will be working for them making a pretty dang starting pay in my opionion compared to other options I looked at.

I personally look at it this way, how many career options out there can you honestly say you can go pay 5k and 2 to 3 months of training and come out making 40k+ your first year of employment? I personally think its not a bad deal at all, but to each its own.

I also gave Roehl serious thought because they have a terminal very close to me and the upfront costs where just about exactly the same out of my pocket. Sure you can go with some of those bigger companies and not foot any of the costs etc, but I am very confident they won't be coming out making the same pay. Just my 2 cents I guess.

you can go pay 5k and 2 to 3 months of training and come out making 40k+ your first year of employment?

Just wondering how you arrive at that figure? Was it a recruiter promiss? Or your personal experience?

Their website is confusing re. driver pay. They post HHg miles, Practical miles, Per diem, Non-per diem. The starting pay varies between .27C per mile to .31C, depending on the options you choose.

I suppose if you're getting .31c/m, 2500 m. per week, you can get 40K, but then there's taxes and everything else.

Of all the company paid training I've looked at, Millis Transfer seems to be the most decent company out there. Yes, it is best to go to private schooling or community college, but if one wants to work for Millis, they must attend their school anyhow since they only hire their CDL school graduates.

Most OTR trucks are KW's 660's, some T2000's and mostly T700's now. I believe they have got rid of all the older than 3 year old 600's now. Your first issued truck this year anyway will most likely be a 660 or a T2000, but it all depends where you are at and when you test out of the program and what is available. For the most part the trucks are not older than 3 years and mostly KW's. There are some 20 or so ish Freightliners out there that mostly senior drivers based out of the BRF area are in for tests purposes. They also just recently got like 3 or 4 volvos to test as well. I have heard they may starting getting some 680's soon, but haven't seen this happen yet.

If regional or local it is mostly brand new cascadias now.

Cummings/Paccar with all the enviromental goodies /sarcasm ... don't plan on breaking any land speed records or climbing hills like Billy Big Rig in his Pete. You will be governed at 62 anyway for your first year lol

Love Pitbulls, just curious: How long did it take you after you submitted your application before you found out you were accepted?

PS: I have heavy feet for the most part, but I figure 62mph in that big killer moving truck during my 1st year will be plenty fast enough. :)

Thanks for the replies. Wow! 2/3 days! That's quick.

I was thinking of sending my application next week, and if accepted, enroll in the Ohio class (not Nov. 26th, but most likely after X-Mas). If not accepted, go to Sage school, get my own CDL, then apply wherever I want.

The good thing about MT is that you're on the road making $ much faster than my plan B. However, there's new thread here tonight that has me rethink. The driver was in training w/ Pam and got fired for having had a ticket (not sure if a past ticket on his personal record or new CDL ticket). Now he ows them 5K and has no job and probably no CDL.

    Now, that's a scary thought...

I'll apply anyway and then decide between plan A or plan B after.
