Sounds like really solid numbers. Never thought it possible to do it and be home every night. I certainly learned something new.volvodriver01 and losttrucker Thank this.

If I aint home by 5:30pm......I'm MAD
I also don't leave the house until around 6 or 7 in the morning
Brownsfan16 and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
Everyone thinks containers are cheap....they arent. The intermodal companies are!!
The key is finding an honest company paying honest rates!! Well that, and doing what the other guys dont want to do!!lorha1159 Thanks this. -
Yes I get home nightly if I want. While I pulled railcans I would leave the house around 8am and get home by 6pm daily and make $1200-$1500 weekly after fuel. I currently pull a flatbed and spend at the least every other night at home if not every night and I clear $2500 week and more.losttrucker and Brownsfan16 Thank this.

Where is Elizabeth Arden located that they would be shipping from? The drive out to the Hampton Roads area is just about 4-5 hours drive from Roanoke, which gives me just the right amount of slack to get back home if the area I'm shipping from isn't far from Roanoke. I'm checking out the area's craigslist section now, but I can't help but wonder; if I'd be hauling from somewhere to hampton roads and coming back empty, then why would there be a listing for such an opportunity in that area? Anyone that lives in that area would want something going from that area, and coming back empty, wouldn't they?
I'm just trying to get a better grasp of how this could work, I'm not trying to argue, I'm no where near a place to be arguing when I've only been exposed to such a small percentage of the transportation world after all
Thanks! -
I am sincerely interested in what you're doing also. While I know I couldn't clear 2500 with the little experience that I have, I think I'd be able to do 1200-1500. I would like to be home every night, but I have no problem being home every other night as long as it wouldn't be any more than that. -
1751 Blue Hills Drive Northeast, Roanoke, VA....high dollar perfume and it will take 10 hours of drive time round trip
Many reasons!! Some dont even think runs like that exist!! Its just not that one shipper, 100's of container trucks go to that area EVERYDAY go the port and back home, BUT everyone thinks containers are cheap freight or truth is people dont wanna work that hard. Its more then driving 600 miles a day and calling it a night. You will live load/unload just about everyday 5 days a week and then you deal with the port which can be an adventure!!
I had the same questions and skepticism also!! Call DD Jones, GTL Transport, STI of Chesapeake, really any container company as Id put money on it they have customers in that area also!!volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
I have absolutely no problem with that! as long as the money is good, hard work is not a big deal to me. and hell, you said 5 days a week, that gives me two days off! I like that! Dealing with the port...that sounds...like maybe not so much fun haha but I could deal with it

Thanks! I'll give them a call, and I'll keep an eye out on the Craigslist listings!
I do just have one more question; do any of these container company driving opportunities use E-Logs? I much prefer e-logs. They do have disadvantages, but the simplicity of them outweighs the disadvantages for me personally.
