over weight on steers

    I picked a preloaded trailer with crane conterweights. I'm showing 12360Lbs on steers, is there any tolerance? I'm PA on the way to Laredao,TX. Brought load back, and shifted all to rear, still no change. Any insight?

    Personally wouldn't worry with it----IF u r undergross---depending on type of truck its most likely fuel weight anywayand as long as u have standard tires they should b rated for @ least 6500lbs---it is usually once u break 13k---above max rate 4 tires there r issues

    some states will check your axle rating, and some won't, but if it is fuel weight and depending on the truck could be just roll with it

    Indiana is the ONLY state that has checked my axle and tire weight ratings........Im sure there are others but I woudnt worry about it

    600# per inch on the tires so 11" tire is good to 6600 X2 13200 on the tires. Your limiting factor is the axle weight rating. My last truck was always over 12000 and never had a problem...not to say an inspector on a bad day couldn't give you one.

    I have never had a problem with DOT and steer axle weight and I am never under 12200 and have been as heavy as 13600 with out being pulled in

    There are so many trucks nowadays with setback steering axles that are overweight even empty that most scales wont bother you...especially if you are good on the drives and trailer. Happy motoring.
