A couple have gone to elogs but most of them are still paper. Sometimes when dealing with live unloads, a 5hr one way drive time and then anywhere between 30mins to 4hrs in the port, I think you might like paper better.
If you decide to run cans best of luck to you.
Interested in becoming a home daily O/O Roanoke, VA area. (any type of truck)

So, you're on your own authority?
-
No not my own authority. I leased to RoadLink and pulled cans to where I was home daily during the winter months. The rest of the year I pull a flatbed with another company.
-
So, you pay for the truck and maintenance out of what you're clearing? Insurance, plates and stuff?
-
You need to realize there are more expenses then fuel, or its just a matter of time before you go under. -
Check Lawrence Transportation.Lots of Roanoke O/O pulling containers for them, and looking at their equipment they may be doing OK.Bear in mind that light container loads aren`t the norm..There are 7-10 overweight import loads from norfolk to roanoke everyday, average NET weight is 54,000.(Gross 90,000 +).I am home everynight, find my own loads, deal mostly with my customers, which lets me pick and choose my work.My boss gave me a 2003 T600 w/C15 550hp 13 speed w aerodyne sleeper but I rarely even lay down in it.Sometimes I will pick a load just so I can sleep in the truck(usually somewhere on a 2 lane road).Average a little better than 25% pay and hourly pay if I do any maintenance on the truck.Overall,I know I`ve got a good gig,but still hate it some days.lol.Loaded I usually gross 88,000 to 92,500 pulling a port chassis.Routinely in the mountains of VA and WV.
Soundfx4 Thanks this. -
My truck running cans paid itself off a long time ago so I don't have any payment on the truck. My insurance and plates come out of my check each week as I run under their authority and the insurance they offer is cheaper. My bobtail is $8.36/week, my liability is $37.00/week and my plates are $75/week. I don't even count any of these things as they come out right off the top. So after fuel and weekly expenses I go home making a profit of $1500-$1800 weekly but the truck runs hard. Then I put a little aside for the rainy day fund when my truck needs something. I also pay a driver to run this truck and run and he makes around $500/week. So I personally still bring in $1,000-$1,300 per week. Not bad for the truck running 1800 miles a week.

Me thinks he caught onto that years ago, just say'in.Soundfx4 and volvodriver01 Thank this.

I'm checking into it right now, but I have to wonder; how do you legally pull that much weight? Overweight permits? And how bad does that much weight hurt your fuel economy?
Thanks! -
VA you can get permits for 90k when hauling cans.Soundfx4 Thanks this.
