I hope I'm wrong, but it sounds like the driver killed had pulled his truck onto the shoulder and got out to pee. But whatever the reason, it cost him his life, though probably not because of anything he might have done pertaining to, say, leaving his rig stuck out in the travel lane.
Seeing this more and more....use the shoulder for the sake of saving a few minutes.
Again, I hope I'm wrong...thinking a driver lost his life for this specific reason. But it still illustrates why the above practice is so ###### dangerous.trucker43, TruckerSue, allniter and 1 other person Thank this. -
I saw another one too this morning down by the Flying J in Texarkana, AR between mm12 and 13 (right after the overpass on wb side). Truck went right over the median down to the road below and entire thing caught fire. Heard on the CB while driving thru it that either/or the driver died and/or his 3 dogs that was with him. One of our other drivers drove by a couple hrs earlier and said he had heard that the trailer ripped away from the tractor causing it but the whole thing was a burnt up mess and backed up I-30 eb for quite awhile. Hope the driver ended up ok and his dogs too but it didn't look too good at all

Really hate to hear of any driver losing his or her life....but it can be a dangerous profession. Had not one, but two near-misses today myself.

Sunday went I came into North Littlerock just on the north side of the arkansas river state troopers had the highway shut down to 2 lanes! Some semi lost his load! A HUGE STEEL COIL! Had a crain there to lift it back on the flatbed. When i got to DDA monday they said friday a rolling road cone went off the road.

This one didn't say why he stopped, they didn't know, just that he was at the back of the truck. And luckily his co-driver was ok and the driver of the truck who hit him.
My husband and I discussed awhile ago why it is that so many cars and trucks end up hit on the side of the road like that, esp at night, he thinks it maybe because people have a tencdency to follow the tail light of the vehicle ahead of it, perhaps so. This doesn't explain the ones who do it during the daytime though I don' think.
There was a really bad one I came across in IN where a truck was merging on the highway and slammed into a patrol car parked behind a semi on the side of the road. The front of the truck was pushed, it looked like, clear back to the back of the cab/sleeper area. The patrol car was wedged under the front truck.
It really is dangerous to park along the side of the road. .trucker43 Thanks this. -
