Could have had issues with the driver, the carrier or the truck in general. No telling, may have even had a problem with the trucks color. Hard to judge what sets people off these days.

Soft economy doesn't help either.........and speaking of........ shop rates are ridiculous as many don't pay their bills or bankrupt out on their account. Like a hospital serving the indigent these costs have to be passed on in the form of higher rates and nit picking a nickle and dime. Shop managers are under pressure to deliver the profits or they will get someone who will........

Not defending anyone here at all. Just stating the obvious. A buddy just paid $250 for 5' of fuel line made up at the parts house. If you consider dealer rates, diagnostics and factory parts then $8000 sounds very possible at a dealer lest we forget to add dealer road service and / or a wrecker.........this same fuel line from my dealer would have pulled 4-500 easy IMO cause it would have a drawing of a bulldog on the tag for the part number. ( Friggin Mack anyway, it's like owning a Cat without the horsepower , just as expensive with no benefit.... )

    Just sayin.....

My truck kept shutting down, like out of fuel. Then in a few minutes would start & on down the road. Finally, looking in the fuel tank, I found a plastic grocery bag inside. Kept the bag and showed it to the terminal manager & we kept it a secret what caused the problem. Another driver asked if I got the fuel problem fixed and I said yes, some trash or somthing in the fuel. He said, do they have any idea who put the plastic grocery bag in there? At the time I worked at a union company & I volunteered to run teams. This guy didn't want any teams started because teams would get the longest runs & could turn them in at least half the time. The union kept him from being fired. Terrible place to work dealing with those crybabies.

Took my truck to the shop yesterday for some exhaust work. Saw a Freightliner with the fuel system torn out and lying next to it. Next to the fuel filters was a pile of sugar that had been dumped out of them. Complete fuel system replacement with injectors. Nasty, and expensive. Apparently a driver wasn't happy being a container hauler.

Sounds like where I got the NHC250's PT pump replaced on the ol M818 for $4300 and 4 weeks in the shop and a bunch of stuff replaced that did not need it. like they could not find out what was wrong with the truck.. The pump cost $700 to be rebuilt. Should have been properly diagnosed and 1 week and $1500 or less. geez did they not have a 200 LB pressure gauge to connect to the PT's high side??

This is one of those huge spotless shiny-floor shops with lots of contracts for city/county/state vehicles. -just the big ones like sanitation, dump, water tankers, day cabs, and also apparently $$ 'provost' $$ motor homes.. I am sure it cost a lot of money to clean that floor too. No wonder the cost of sanitation service has gone up so much.

I know better now, what it cost to work on my truck, how to tell what's wrong, in general, and what the parts can be had for. But because I didn't know any better back then, I guess I got the shaft on it.
