Well GorgeousBlueMustang, you have picked two of the top companies to start with in Schneider and Roehl. I drove for Schneider. They have a huge freight base and several Operation Centers [what we call terminals] in various locations. Those are 2 big pluses for new drivers. Both companies are very safety conscious. That is another thing that is important to new drivers.
.
While I have no experience with Roehl, I do know that their school is $2,800 plus $375 for a single occupancy room. The school is in Marshfield Wisconsin.
.
Have you also looked into Con-Way Truckload [the old CFI] or Crete Carrier? FFE and Stevens also have pretty good company schools and both are refrigerated carriers. I also do not want to forget Millis Transfer which has their own school.

Hey Stang, I'm a vet who is graduating from Smith Solomon Trucking this week. I've thoroughly researched the following companies: Roehl, Schneider, Prime, USX, and Knight. I know for sure that if you use your GI Bill, you can get your CDL with all endorsements and get hired on with Roehl, Schneider, and Prime...AND they will continue to pay you the stipend of 1000 bucks a month for the first six months you work for them. The rate goes down to 800 bucks after that, and stops after you are working for 1 year. Quite a good deal. No contract necessary. You will need to decide how much actual time you want with a trainer. Prime offers the most...up to 12 weeks, while Schneider will get you going solo in 18 days. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions! Ted.Twicebit Thanks this.

Don't forget the community college programs, which tend to be cheaper and longer, and may offer more seat time. I'm enrolled in one. It's too far from my house to commute, so I rented a room from someone on Craigslist. So far it's working out.
Be aware, though, that some community colleges let commercial driving schools operate under their name...they tend to be more expensive and shorter in length. -
BossOutlaw88 How long have you been with Schneider?

I like working for them. I went and earned all my endorsements so I can get as many miles as possible. I'm looking to gain experience, then become an O/O. They don't allow pets in company trucks.

Hey, Cuzzin it! what company do you drive for? How's your hometime? I guess, in regards to hometime... It won't really bother me too much if I stay out for a while, just curious. Do you like the company you work for?
Thank you for taking the time to respond. Be safe!

Hey, Treefork! If I may ask... How do you like working for Roehl?
Thanks. Be safe out there!

@ Xcis...
By any chance, did you go to their school for your CDL? I was just wondering how much they charged. I checked Schneider's website and they do have a driver school here in town. I actually plan to check it out when I get a chance. How do you like driving for Schneider? How's their hometime?
Thanks for your response. Be safe out there!

Hey, Ted! Yep, got a few questions.
* Is Smith Solomon Trucking one of the Company Drivers School? If it is so, which company?
* How long is the schooling? Did you already test out with DOT?
* Did your school got you a Pre-hire? Do you know now what company you're gonna go for?
* So, did you use your GI Bill? and if so, did you use Chap 30 or the Post 911 GI Bill?
* Utilizing the GI Bill... do you know if there's still an out-of-pocket expense?
Sorry for the gazillion questions. Lol. Thanks for the help though.
Take care!

I've been with Schneider 4 months now. I've been driving a year. I like them. Miles are good and they have nice OCs and friendly drivers. As far as the trucks are concerned, they maintain them decently, but starting out you get the truck that the veteran drivers don't want.
