My significant other recently singed on a lease purchase program in september driving a reefer. Help!
He has 20 plus years experience and is excited to finally have a chance to own his own truck.
The problem is this: his dispatcher doesn't take into consideration the time it takes to get from point A to point B, sleep time, delivery time, ect. Also, the dispatcher continues to schedule pickups on Thursday or Friday with delivery on Monday. And when Monday comes, the dispatcher doesn't start looking for the next load until that load is finished, or my boyfriend has to ask him if he has anything. And the dispatcher almost never answrs his phone and takes forever to call him back. He had a situation last week where the drop refused the load, and my boyfried sat at the dock waiting for 9 hours while they sorted things out! The dispatcher didn't stand up for him. He had to take the freight back ( 11 hour drive) and got little to nothing in pay. Dispatcher didn't try to negotiate more money. He's asked for a new dispatcher but they keep sayin they'll talk to him (the dispatcher).

20 years experience and he got into a Lease Purchase program? I don't think his only problem is the dispatcher here.

In twenty years, he should have at least $100,000 saved up to buy his own truck.

I will ignore your insults, but just so you know, Its not 20 consecutive years....its combined experience, including years truck driving in the army.

No insults were given. Best advice I can give is to keep going up in the chain of command until someone listens. And if that does no good, have the lease contract revoked. He can get out of the lease at any time, right?

Hey 4Marvelous, if he has talked to the OPS manager about his dispatcher, and nothing has been done then most facilities have an open door policy. However, sometimes getting a new dispatcher will not always solve the problem. He should talk to other drivers to find out which dispatchers are good and which are not. Then he can go in and go to the Operations Manager and talk to him in person..lay it out on the line. Tell him/her you are tired of talking about getting another dispatcher because you are losing money by sitting while the wheels are not rolling and if things don't change your boyfriend will start looking for a company that will. Nine times out of ten it works, but if it the Ops Manager doesn't listen then go above his head to someone else..possibly the owner and lay it on the line for him/her.

The next question you guys need to ask yourself is he making decent money with this Lease Purchase or does he have small checks or is he in the negative? How much is your weekly cost to lease a truck? When you take everything into consideration then decide if this place is the right fit for you guys. If not then start looking for a company that does suit your guys needs. The thing about Lease Purchase that I have found is that the bigger companies paint a great picture until you start working for them, and then you find out what they are like. This doesn't only happen with L/P, but it happens with company drivers too. I wish you the best of luck.

You are confusing L/P with O/O. As you can see, he and you think he "owns" his own truck, which he doesn't. If he did, he could terminate his lease right now and move somewhere else. So, since that's not happening, he is basically a glorified company driver with ALL the responsibilities of truck ownership, yet totally beholden to his company. He cannot turn down loads, he cannot alter his truck in any way, his company dictates where he fuels and where he gets repairs, PLUS, his company does the bookkeeping and disburses the funds, with the company taking their share first. As I said, G-L-O-R-I-F-I-E-D.......C-O-M-P-A-N-Y......D-R-I-V-E-R.

The problems are more than just the dispatcher. Load planners or the software planning the loads only care about covering all loads efficiently. Your husband may want to roll all through the weekend but the company might not have much freight like that where he is at any given Friday. If they do it is luck of the draw. This is what sucks about mega-carriers. If you don't have the ability to self dispatch you are just at their mercy and dispatchers anymore at big companies are little more than glorified computer operators who have little real power to change things up on loads. Another thing they have to force dispatch you to make things easy for them. If they gave you choices you'd screw up everything by only taking long hauls or going home as you pleased. And there are many who can't handle even that much responsibility Best thing hubby could do is walk away and come up with a better plan to own and operate.

I drive for risinger bros and they have a great lease purchase program.I am not a lease driver but have my own truck. The trucks are not new but used penske trucks and when I was in the garage getting a turbo I was able to observe the mechanics going through the trucks. The trucks are older trucks which means you will be able to pay them off in a couple of years and make revenue towards a newer truck.
