    Mine was done by third party as well....ie..didn't work for DMV. But he sends all paper work to DMV branch office for you to go pick up...unless you elected to have it mailed, in which case it would've taken up to 6 weeks to get.

    Alabama mails the CDL's, takes a new picture on renewal and mails it too. On a regular license they even have an expiration date on the paper copy can't remember if husbands CDL did or not. Wish they could make it all up on one trip and that way save time having to run back home again to get the hard copy.

    North Carolina centralized the printing of the official cards and began mailing them after a few employees were found to have been selling illegitimate licenses to illegal immigrants for several years.
