Lonesome< Bad day yesterday, had my truck clipped in truck stop, sorry for being an butt.
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Yeah, I've had those days too. Things can only get better, eh?
-
Oh man, I was just gettin' some popcorn.
-
I knew there was a reason we called them "Dazed and Lost."
/Me fetches popcorn... -
The only thing you see in the ditches while driving across hwy 17 are moose and day and ross trucks....one look at the drivers and the equipment they are pulling tells the story.
-
And the "Dazed and Lost" trucks out number the moose 5 to 1!

I once saw a young kid who had come to Canada on a student visa and he was driving Day and Ross Truck to pay the Bills. Running dedicated. Drove 4 days and attending school 3 days. Although it is perfectly legal as far as Canadian laws are concerned, I sometimes wonder how he got into the truck. I mean Day and Ross too requires 2 years experience before they will hire you and here is this guy who probably does not even have 2 months car driving experience, driving an 85,000 lbs truck on 11/17 in winter.
Does Day and Ross permit this? I don't think so. Do they turn a blind eye towards this? I don't think so. ..What is actually happening is that their deductible is too low($2500 per incident, compared to $5000 per incident for some other companies), The insurance surcharge in case of accident is too low (1 cpm compared to 2% of the Gross in case of some other companies) and there is no requirement regarding the age of the tractor when you are hired.
In a nutshell, owner operator has almost nothing to lose and that is why they take chances and put inexperienced people in their trucks, who in turn put their and other motorists life in danger.
And all calls for having a graduated driving license for truck drivers keep falling on deaf ears -
Frankly these days they are putting some serious money and effort into this issue. Payrates are higher than their competitors because they want to attract the best drivers & Owner Operators. Atleast 60% of the loads are drop and Hooks. Driver treatment is excellent at Hartland, Brampton and Vancouver Terminals. It is not bad in Montreal and Regina. And they have started spending money on the equipment as well. Over 90 clean inspections in the first 2 months of 2014. I think Day and Ross's image is going to make a U turn

In case you are wondering, I do work for them. and loving it..

Day & Ross's CVOR is going down hill with all the troubles they have been haveing and pay rate is terrible because of the driver services they use.
