This one
"I could care less if there are speed limiters or not. My fleet of trucks are wide open, but I offer my drivers a pretty generous fuel mileage incentive and I know for a fact that these trucks are not driven over 60 MPH. When I drive, I am quite happy to set my cruise at 58 and lean the chair back, enjoy the scenery and think of the fuel savings (my fleet average BTW is 8.13 US mpg's). I am not a super trucker who needs to me in the big hole all day long and put on the show of "look at me, look at me" and then get to the truckstop and whine and moan about how much fuel costs. I wish fuel was higher, cause for my operation thats a good thing. To those who have no idea how to comprehend this, then it shows who has their head in the game and who doesnt...
Your post might be the best in this thread!! -
Well there are very few folks who actually "know" how this business works. I bet most here think I am nuts for wanting fuel to be higher because they have no idea why...Alot of em drive for a couple years and somehow gain more knowledge then me @ 12 years...I dunno. Its all in how you comprehend things and if you are seriously willing to learn, there is alot of money to be made hauling general freight out here...
-
I want fuel prices higher, too, strangely enough...
-
Move to BC, problem solved.
-
Not that kind of higher fuel prices. Obviously you have no idea of what the reason behind it is. For serious truckers/businessmen only...
-
Never knew any "serious businessmen" who wanted their costs to go up.
-
AS I previously stated, alot of folks dont know why that is and think its absurd. Sometimes when the cost goes up its a good thing cause if you really know what you are doing and have you operating costs down to a science like any serious businessman should, then it will be very beneficial...
-
If nothing else, then higher fuel prices will hopefully run all these bottom-feeders out of business, increasing demand for the services of proper truck-drivers/companies, and those benefitting accordingly.
(I'm getting reeeeeaaaally sick of looking in my mirrors to suddenly find Gurpreet at the helm of some beat-to-#### rolling violation of a FLD-120 with "Alberta 15636VDETWVB5636 Ltd. Tractor Service" --scrawled in permanent marker!-- sat literally centimetres off my back doors in the right-hand lane, and there he stays, even if/when he's got a wide-open left-hand lane and all the room in the world to get around me...But that's a whole 'nother rant/thread entirely.) -
They can already do this through reference-checks and CVOR/Driving abstract reports for the initial research.
Followed by proper interviewing and drive/practical testing.
And whaddayaknow, that's just what they do.
