If you lie about a criminal background and are found out it is worse than telling them and not getting hired. It is common for carriers to routinely do a criminal background check on new applicants. While I would not lie about any criminal charges if asked, I would also not volunteer anything. Carriers are usually more concerned about felonies than misdemeanors. Many carriers don't start checking your references and background until you get to orientation. If you lie and they see your criminal history and you didn't note it on your application, you will likely be sent home and your DAC will be noted that you were terminated for falsifying your application. That will create another red flag for any other potential employer. It is always best to be truthful. If an employer finds that you lied on your application then they assume that you have lied about other things. Someone who lies will also be considered as someone who will more likely steal or be unreliable. I am stating this as an employer. If I find that someone has lied to me, then I don't want them around.
From the op post you stated that your record would be expunged after your probationary period. If it were me, I would wait about 30 days after the expungement and then apply. At that point, you would not be lying about having a criminal record since it would have been expunged. I would suggest going to your local police or sheriff's office and have them pull up your criminal history to make sure that it has not appeared.

misdemeanors usually can't be expunged for 7 years.
there are jobs out there. but you gotta get the driving experience. -
Thanks for the real advice guys. I've talked to a few local companies around here, and they seem to be more concerned with felonies, one company (that I won't name here) doesn't even ask about a misdemeanor, and another one I spoke with only care about a driving record. I'm just trying to get by, you know? Got little mouths to feed, and ex's to pay child support to, and all that...

In calif its 1 year or less to " qualify" for expungement ..cal code 1203.4
You can google it yourself since I dont know how to post links -
yeah, even probation said they would recommend me for early termination of probation and expungement, if i pay the fine. the 1300 dollar fine.
and i thought about lying on my application--and i'm sure i could slip through the cracks in *some* companies. and then the day would come when i'm trucking along, probably 1000 miles away from home, when my employer finds out i lied and terminates me on the spot. i'd prefer long-term stability over effing up my career...TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
I agree but at this point you have no career ..right ? Thats all I'm saying about lying besides you not will stay at your first job long enough for them to find out and you will haved probably moved on at the same time as taking care of the misd...

True that sir. But looks like I won't need to be lying on any applications. May Trucking, as well as Henderson, gave me pre hire letters
Dinomite and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
..and i post that cautiously, i don't want to make these companies sound like 'criminal record friendly' companies... i guess they considered individual circumstances. this surprised me, since one of the recruiters were female.

It's not a gender specific bias.
There are many mothers of sons and sisters of brothers that fully understand what can happen to men in DV situations.
There are probably more self-righteous, white-knight like men that would be against you, than women.
Glad to see things are working out for you.jessi12 Thanks this. -
Criminal friendly ...haha ..are your sure you dont mean hendrickson..BC they are the ones who are the criminals... they will let you run..
