No reason to EVER walk back to your truck. I had two guys hit my mirrors. Immediately I take my cell phone and snap pics of the truck# and VIN/DOT/KYU/etc #s on the side of the truck. THEN I start dealing with the accident.

I want no part of a drive off.

More than likely, if the driver reported the accident to CRE, he's fired anyway. So, he'd rather risk fleeing the scene and hoping to escape with his job.

The second time?? Either you have extremely ###### luck or we're not getting the entire story. My careers been the same length as yours and I've never even scrapped a trailer. Plus, if this happened to you before, why weren't you more careful to not let the driver out of your sight until you had his info? He's pulling a 53 foot trailer - one which you'd become familiar with on a count of it just smashed your tractor - kinda hard to flee the scene in one of those. It's easy to blame an entire company for one bad driver, but while you were lecturing him about the importance of GOAL, you could have been signaling for witnesses or calling the cops. Truthfully, it's not CREs job to go out of their way and make things right for you when you didn't even the common sense to gather ANY sort of information on the alleged driver. A Lic #, trailer #, a name...anything. There's no excuse, and for all they know you could just be ############ to get some free body work on the england dime...

The first thing you did wrong was to get hot at the driver and use foul language. Maybe if you had been more polite and told him that it can be taken care of or something like that he may have been more cooperative. How would you feel if you hit someone and they jumped at you with foul language? Think about it.

I would expect it>if you are careless and smash into others and their vehicles you deserve to be berated.

You should always bake fresh cookies, daily before turning in from a easy day of driving the ol big truck.
Then in the unfortunate event that you have been awakened from a restful slumber, you can greet the
    offender with delicious baked goods.
A nice big hug should ,then follow it up, with reassurance that its no big deal.
Tell him you were about to wake up and start plowing into innocent civilians, but he
    has done you a favor..
Continue with pleasantries from your short notice of sleep interruption, and offer to put the guy up in a hotel for the night.
You don't wanna misrepresent our Boy Scout image weve worked so hard to maintain.:sad3:

The way the big companies are, having a trailer number is worthless. They're going to deny responsibility anyway, and your company will end up paying their deductible because it's cheaper than going to court. Happened to me multiple times when i was running meat, makes you mad enough to spit, but it's just another symptom of the complete lack of ethics amongst the bottom-feeders.

And if it gets me cookies, I'm gonna start backing into some trailers!

"If" someone hit "my" truck when I still had it......well they'd be considered lucky if all they got was foul language.

    You and me both, driver!

You bet your bippy! I don't know about you, but I'm pretty tired of this totally consequence-free society everyone seems to want. So the OP got hot, so what? His equipment has been damaged, he's now going to have to explain the damage to his company. Plus he is now going to have to drive a damaged truck around and deal with the comments from other drivers who are unaware as to how the damage occurred and will presume the OP did it himself.

When I catch hunters trespassing on my property, they get the rough side of my tongue. Should I be sweet and tender to them while they violate the law and my right to privacy? If someone breaks into my house, should I offer to help them carry my property out to their vehicle so they don't strain themselves in the process of taking my items that I paid for? Because if that's the world you want, please keep it to yourself. My world allows me to have certain rights, including the right to protect myself and my property. And I will defend those rights.
