i've read several threads mentioning locks... but (unless i'm missing something), brands aren't mentioned.
if they aren't issued (or "issued" then taken from paychecks) which ones are the best to get?
thanks!

I had good luck with something similar to this, got mine from Landstar..

Anything with a protected shank will be fine. If they (Bad Guys or Girls) want it they will get it your just slowing them down.

Looks somewhat similar to the meat locks used by Stevens back in the day. It's not the same lock, but it is a similar style.
Me? I've always stuck with a regular padlock. But I didn't run any high value freight, since I don't run team. And a padlock worked for me because I rarely kept freight on the trailer for more than 24 hours.
And since I made the jump to flatbed, I can't really lock a door I don't have....I guess I could lock the chains...nah. -
Most companies will either provide them and charge you for them or recommend which ones they prefer you to use. A lot of companies like them to be universal in case you loose the key or they need to get in them without you around.

Always a handy idea with me around. I have yet to keep a lock for more than 3 weeks. I keep leaving them on the trailer after I drop it. And yes, I do a walk around when dropping a trailer. I just keep forgetting to remove the lock before I haul out to get my next trailer.chompi Thanks this.

Yep, have done it a few times myself!

You, a few. Me, every bloody lock I've been given. I'm personally fairly sure that I am the sole reason why companies are now charging for the locks upon issuance. I bet I've cost companies more in lost locks than any other group of drivers you care to name. For some reason, as responsible as I consider myself to be as a driver I cannot be trusted with locks. If I ever get a job that requires locks, I'm just gonna buy six or eight of them before I leave on my first dispatch. That'll make life easier on me, at least. I just feel bad for the poor schmucks who have to cut the locks off the trailers I drop.

WOW, those locks are $ 120, I haven't left it locked on the trailer yet, but that time I layed it on the bumper-wheesh- at least I got it back.
I saw one of our trailers that had the enforcer lock on it and thge thieves cut the pipe it hangs on -
I'll bet the freight claim if your trailer gets broke into will be more than $120....
whatcha think ??
