3 Rig Accident at I-35 MM 318 NB

That's a bad stretch of "old school interstate" road. VERY short, narrow, dog-leg on and off ramps ... Extremely dense traffic on 2 lanes, virtually any time of day ... I can't understand why that stretch of interstate is just now being brought up to standards and in or near the update phase.

 

I used to Live in Temple and worked in Waco.....
So yeah. That whole stretch is always a big mess.

 

So many deaths are happening in construction areas, not always big trucks, but it seems like they are taking the lead.

Not only death but one man lost a leg.

construction zones always strike me as A symbol of governmental arrogance. Block off miles of roadway creating A "zone" where no one is working , but creating A monumental traffic jam. Public be ###### ! Down to one lane, and even then the cones or barrels are set over the lines and partially in the traveled lane. A police car with lights flashing, but nobody in it. Cops monitoring the site who never seem to notice the berm bandits and 4 wheeler lunatics jockeying for A better position , cutting other drivers off, exceeding the posted reduced speed limit by 20 mph or more. Then there are the construction workers who think they are bullet proof, and just walk right out into traffic assuming everyone will honor their omnipotence. Sure , there are trucks involved in accidents , but I would venture to say that usually the truck didn't precipitate the incident. In Texas I saw auxiliary roads , parallel to the main thoroughfare that provided A bypass around construction zones. This approach, another passage, should be mandatory on interstates where A project will exceed 10 days duration. The Autobahn in Europe is so constructed that they don't have the patch work dog and pony shows we have here. Their freeze-thaw cycles are as bad or worse than ours, can you say " Alps " ? Also , the contractor warrants the work, and is responsible for repairs with no further compensation. We have A recurring history of carnage in our construction areas. The engineering design of measures to maintain traffic flow seemingly do not factor in heavy commercial vehicle traffic. What is the cost in wasted man-hours , the effect of pollutants discharged from thousands of idling vehicles, injuries, loss of human life etc. ? Remember, this is nationwide! The issue is like the "Emperor's New Clothes" , invisible to the bureaucrats cranking out rules , laws, and promulgating legislation that pertains to truck drivers. All the while it is common knowledge that in an accident involving A tractor trailer and automobiles , the 4 wheelers usually precipitated it. The regulatory agencies target victims that are largely without political clout, while big voting blocs are handled with kid gloves. These work zones , the creation thereof , should have an official , written criteria acknowledging and providing for the special issues and needs pertaining to CMV's . Want to make up regulations , solve problems ? Here is A real one that cries out for A concerted effort aimed at improvement.

 

Nice speech.. but the only thing that could have been blamed on fourwheelers was the first truck stopping on the interstate for no apparent reason.. the drivers who reacted poorly where the cause of the other two trucks being on their sides..

 

People drive way too fast through that construction area from Hillsboro south. I hate that stretch of road. There are plenty of accidents but the way the road is now with the barriers and uneven lanes I'm suprised there aren't multi-car/truck wrecks every day.

 

i drive that section every week, part of a dedicated run Laredo to Wisconsin and back. i can't believe there aren't more accidents there. from Hillsborough south to just north of Austin, the construction zones are a nightmare.
