How about "points" ?
Simple enough, each violation comes with it's own "score/points" that are factored into a companies SMS.
Here's a couple of links to put this puppy to rest.
http://www.jjkeller.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/content____csa-faq_10151_-1_10551
http://www.carrier411.com/csa2010.cfm
http://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/about/basics.aspx
Continued driver violations at a carrier, will have a direct impact on their SMS. So the points obtained during inspection, WILL have an impact in the long run.
If corrective measures are not taken.
Don't ignore the points, just because you think it doesn't matter, or think it's a myth.BigBadBill, Rocks, Roadmedic and 1 other person Thank this. -
WOW! Thank you very much for the info!Jseney12078 Thanks this. -
I have it pdf format, but the site won't let me upload it.
However I did find this site that explains the difference between Carrier & Driver scores
http://www.whatiscsa.com/driver/
I have found a link that will upload a excel file that will give a complete list of ALL the violations / points
http://www.drivertraction.com/csa_points.xlsx
Hope this clarifies things...Rocks and Jseney12078 Thank this. -
thanks again starline, it's very difficult to keep up with this topic due to the constant changes, In Landline magazine I'm reading that there will be another change comming, lol amazing isn't it????
-
Yes there is going to be a change, but a good change like separating HM violations from securement and better defining logging. Like missing manifest # has nothing to do with a driver being fatigued...
-
yeah, csa is great
the only place where a not wearing a seatbelt is more unsafe than following too close -
And YES! Major shippers especially in chemicals are using the "score" "points" "percentile" to hire / fire carriers and pressure rates down. Trust me!
We were denied new business because of this........ irony is, carrier did nothing, does nothing....... the same drivers are still allowed to run without hazmat, med cards in posesion etc.
Guess he figures it just gonna go away, dunno, it's carrier mgmt. , no tellin what their thinking...if at all. -
No there is no such thing as "points". There is severity weight. I still have no idea where people got the word points from. It doesn't exist in the methodology.
http://csa2010.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/smsmethodology.pdf
In regards to the original post, according to the methodology that FMCSA has published there are several factors in play here. First because you have less than three "relevant inspections" (level 1,2,3,6) you will not be assessed a score. The violation will show up on your CSA page however. Here's exactly what it would look like:
https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Data/carrier.aspx?enc=tu9lyCbTVo0sDDPQE7AhzQ==
and
https://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Data/BASICs.aspx?enc=tu9lyCbTVo3gYESL38dtog==
So we see the violation, but there's no score.
Here's what to do:
1) Do a DataQ challenge. Probably won't work, but it's free and worth a shot.
2) Try to avoid inspections if at all possible. This is only to keep you below 3 "relevant inspections". As soon as you hit three, because you have a violation, you want more clean inspections to bring the score down.
3) Be legal! Avoid violations as much as possible.
So say we get up to those 3 "relevant inspections" in the next 6 months. Both other inspections are clean. I'm going to assume your current violation has a severity weight of 8+2 (2 for OOS).
The math works out like this:
Sum of severity weight X time weight of violations
Divided by
Sum of time weight of relevant inspections (including clean ones)
Which translates to:
10 X 3 + 0 + 0 = 30
Divided by:
3 + 3 + 3 = 9
Your score would be 3.33333 which would probably place you pretty high. I couldn't find a graph for the group you would be in, so it's impossible to determine what percentile you'd be in. -
next thing you know, they want us to roll over and play deadvolvodriver01 Thanks this.
