Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

I'm just messing with ya. Truth is it's inconclusive at best, dudes and dudettes will do stupid things regardless of how your record their HOS.

 

define stupid things?

unsafe things or just non-compliant things?

#2 they're actually safer
#3 No, the goal isn't conformity. Everyone operates differently even at my company.

 

Both, like the dude that blows up with brakes, backs up the interstate, and flips a cookie. I can't stop that the first time, but I can the second.

The guy that runs 27 hours without a qualifying break is equally unsafe.

I guess its just me then. Maybe its because I came into trucking with the current HOS rules and just adapted to driving 11 hours in a day and not being tired doing it.

I would have to beg to differ on that. People can work hard manuel labor pulling double shifts yet when they drive home to go to bed they aren't necessarily unsafe in doing so. I personally could run 27 hours with a couple naps of 2-3 hours and be just fine. So you can't say everyone would be unsafe.

 

Would you be tired if you were allowed 12 hours? I bet there are days when you are running through the night and are tired after 5 hours. Hos doesn't work for the majority.

 

Everyone's also different. My last job we were doing 18's in the jail. 18 hours on then 6 hours home and be back the next day for another 18. Only did it for 3 days. I lived an hour from the jail so in reality I only got 2-3 hours of sleep. I was wide awake going into work, but on the way home that was a different story.

All legal, safe? No. I've driven past my 14 to get to a place to rest, couldn't stay at the customer so I drove 20 minutes to a truck stop. Unsafe? I don't believe so, illegal? Yes. I'll take what's safe over legal anyday. In orientation when driving they would always say "when safe and legal". Although doing what's legal isn't always safe, and vice versa. I'll take what's safe over legality any day.

I guess I see what y'all are saying though, I like the current rules because they work for me, except the 70 hour rule. Get rid of that one, but what works for me doesn't work for everyone. They have an HOS rules that is supposed to blanket everyone. I guess it doesn't work

Also no I don't believe I would be tired after 12 hours. Although I don't drive through the night anymore pulling flatbed. Pretty much 99.9% of the time I'm solar powered so to speak.
