I'm new here and this may not be the right forum for this but I just replaced the power steering pump on my freightliner century with a series 60 in it. I still have no power steering. It got dark on me so had to quit for the night but will get back on it in the morning. Just wondered if there was a trick or something I'm missing. only thing i can think of is the hose that goes from the resevoir to the pump was kinked a little...would that keep it from working? Could it be something besides the pump?
Thanks for any advice.

The fluid level correct and using the right fluid???? Is the pump primed the best you could???? It could take a moment or two too get all the air pockets out. You may have to keep opening the resevore and putting more fluid in.
Take the return hose off the pump and see if fluid comes out. The hoses correct and not backwards?/??Mastertech, Mommas_money_maker and tntruckdriver Thank this. -

thanks for the quick reply, Jseney. I asked the parts guy if i needed to prime it and he said no, shouldn't have to so i didn't. just put it on and hooked up the hoses and filled it with fluid. ya, i'm sure the hoses are right.... only one way you can hook them up so i know i didn't mess that up, ha. I'll try unhooking the return hose like you said and see if its coming through.
thanks again -

Ok, thanks guys for the help. I'll get back on it first thing in the morning and I'm sure I'll get it working. Need to figure out a way to re-route that hose to keep it from kinking, check the return line and prime it if I need to. This forum is great... lots of helpful advice.
Thanks again. -
before you replace pump follow PS pressure check procedure. really pump is well lubricated thing and problem ma be in steerbox valve unit
tntruckdriver Thanks this. -
what do you mean by ps pressure check procedure?

Connect a gage inline to the pressure line from the pump to the steering gear box. You can then deadhead the pump to check max output pressure and also operate steering from lock to lock while monitoring gage and check control valves.
