Congrats Bill on your move. Sales tax is a killer, but I'm sure you'll save on so many other taxes, it won't matter. Watch out for the Parkers and Fullers and you'll be alright.

Yeah, but coming from IL, sales tax is .75% higher but no state income tax. We just plan ahead and doing big purchases online. Most offer free shipping and better prices. In the process of ordering computers, monitors and TV/Monitors for office. When look at discounts and tax we save 30-40% or more.

A great thing about living in Chattanooga you're only a 10 or 15 minute drive from GA where the sales tax is 4%.

who told you the sales was 4 per cent in ga? i only wish it was . with all the counties and such having splost special local option sales tax, the rate in most counties is 7 per cent with some being 8 per cent.

the state says there is a 4 per cent state sales tax, but there is also a 3 per cent "county" (lol) tax collected by the state also. in reality the sales tax rate is 7 per cent , plus any 1 per cent splost taxes (special local option sales taxes).

so dont move to ga thinking you will pay 4 cent sales tax, another quirk is ga sales tax on fuel, instead of being a flat rate like in the past its now a percetage based tax, thus it goes up as does the price of fuel.

ga has a lower fuel tax, but the sales tax has jumped making ga fuel higher than surrounding states, when in years past ga fuel was cheaper than any surrounding state.

creative accounting by the folks in atlanta.

I didn't know that. Still better than 9.75%, sometimes more, in TN... probably not worth the fuel wasted for the 15 minute drive unless one was making a purchase of several thousand's $$$$ Every time we're at Wal Mart or wherever spending $100 it's always in the back of my mind I'm paying $10 tax on that and it ticks me off. No income tax is great but the sales tax is rediculous here. I think TN ranks either 1st or 2nd in the nation with the highest sales tax right up there with commiefornia.

A good place to fuel locally in Choo Choo is Benton Oil on the corner of Bonny Oaks Drive and Jersey Pike. A lot of the locals go there if you don't go to Dalton or Wildwood.

Good to know. I have been meaning to take a ride around looking for places near our yard. Our new yard is on Chesnut right across the street from Finely Stadium. Plan on using the Staybridge Suites in downtown for orientation hotel.
