I am currently with a large trucking company (if you care, it'd probably take you all of 30 seconds to figure out which one, lol) that installed an ambient idle sensor in my truck and it has definitely made my quality of life in my truck plummet. We also do not have APUs.

I can't see to find this on the Roehl website, and after a quick search here, I'm not finding my answers. What is Roehl's idle policies and do they have APUs?

The tri-pac style apu is only on the older trks and is being fazed
Out as the older trucks are being sold off.
All the new trks have same ambient temp sensor as your current carrier.
All new trucks have a battery powered heating/cooling factory system.
The trks will idle at 15 degrees and at 80 degrees and roehl has a idle
Percentage for each month of the year.

Not sure on idle policy. They have apus on a few trucks but the new ones like my prostar and the cascadias have the battery packs which work well if you get a prostar. The cascadias don't last as long. The prostars are prostar+ trim level with auto start. If your batteries get low it starts the truck and idles at 1,000 rpm. I took three 34 hour resets because of the storm last week. My idle percentage was 62.3%. I've never had anything said to me about idling. BUT, they have the gauge too, so if its above 80° or under 15° its supposed to keep idling. Which in the summer mine did. I usually idled at customers and then used the battery packs at night.

THAT, is exactly what my carrier should have done when installing these new sensors. If they had done that, I could have been just fine.

So with these extra battery pack things... do you think I could run a bunk heater AND a cooler all night?

I had a ProStar here at Crete...the A/C in the bunk in that truck failed 5 times when I finally demanded to get out of it. Others have had no issues with them. Fundamentally, I think it's a good system. The one I had was just a lemon. The five failures, by the way, include THREE after the entire unit was replaced. leading me to believe there was something wrong with the wiring or grounding within the truck.

I'm in a Cascadia right now. System has worked flawlessly and will easily run a cooler all night (I also use a CPAP and occasionally charge my phone and/or iPod overnight...no problems).

    Yes.

I have a huge igloo cooler that is plugged in 24/7. On the prostars the bunk heater is a diesel fueled espar heater. So it doesn't run off the batteries. The only thing running off the batteries would be your cooler and the fans running to push the heat into the sleeper.

Last night my heater was on all night and so was my cooler. My trunk cranked right up with no problems. I had my auto start off. The auto start is great BUT it cranks up and idles the truck even if your batteries aren't low in winter. When auto start is on and the truck's coolant temp gets below 40° or so, it will crank up and idle. I turned it off because it was cranking up every three hours lol.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a ton more than what you have now.
