TQL Never again

It appears that, the more arrogant the broker is, the bigger they are. They will go out of the way to nickel and dime you and then expect you to give them the service???? I have yet to find one who is honest and fair. 1,TQL held our truck for all day on a cheap($700 for 314 miles) load from Hudson NY ( NY tolls and Bridges) to Camp Hill PA, did not provide the addresses till the very last moment and then refused our billed 4 hour detention. 2,CH Robber said in Laredo TX last summer, that he will pay $2950 for North Jersey almost 2000 miles, you have to do fifty dirt cheap loads for them before seeing any reasonable prices. I called from other people’s phone and found out that every one was offering $3800-$4200 for the same run.

 

Majority of those load boards are full of ####!!! The bad part of it all, there will be O/O out there that will pull cheap freight. As said before, brokers know that. But finding the right broker, buyer, or farmer. Will keep you off those load boards. Just keep looking...you will find the Pot-o-gold.

 

Coming from someone who got sucked into working there, allow me to apologize for being forced to do what many of you are talking about.

I had a well paying job but took this because I got sold on it, and that's nothing against the recruiters, they're the nicest people you can meet. I worked there last year for about 3 months, and this is pretty much what it is. Here it is:

1. After you get hired, you're an assistant, whereas you're told you'll go through training. Well, being an assistant there pretty much means you make check calls and lie to the carrier or lead them on to believe they are going to get detention time, because apparently the brokers are too cowardly to actually get on the phone and do it themselves. Most of the drivers who hear the whole "we'll look into it" or "I'm waiting from the customer's response," are being duped just so they'll finish the load.

2. If you're a carrier frustrated about a load being posted within a 200 mile radius, imagine getting 100 calls on a load posted in let's say Chicago, but it really is picking up 150 miles away. Most pointless tactic ever, but the brokers never have to talk to those people so what o they care.

3. I sold suits at a very young age, and we were obviously told to try to upsell no matter what, sometimes that would include people coming in to buy a suit for a funeral. I couldn't behave like that. And while I thought that was unethical, nothing compared to what I had to do last year lying and misleading drivers just so they would drop the load off. I've never seen that lack of ethics before.

4. People looking to work there, understand while I was there I would look down every other day and see about 100 people there who just got hired. If you have no education and like sitting on your ### 60 hours a week lying and misleading honest hard-working people for about $2,000 a month for the first couple years, have at it. It really isn't for everyone. But you can go park cars or wait tables and make much more money in half the hours.

5. Drivers/dispatchers, even though some of your requests can be a bit ridiculous at times in terms of detention, know that the person you're dealing with has worked there for 3-maybe 4 weeks and just giving you a script of b.s. and they're not going away form it becasue they don't want to lose their job.

I'm so glad that mistake is behind me, literally the most un-ethical company I have ever seen.

Twice TQL and I have come to terms on 2 loads,
received Rate Conformation Sheets in writing...
the first load, I arrived...waited the normal 1 hour to load....then I get a call from TQL
saying the load was cancelled by the customer...
...but then another truck pulls up...I ask the driver about the load he arrived for...
.....it was my load that was cancelled.....TQL sold it for less to another company and cancelled on me.
...then it was like pulling teeth to get them to pay for "truck not used"...which they did pay.

..The second load:...this time I didn't move ..
...called TQL and told them I was 2 minutes away...and will wait for load appt...
...again, they cancelled the load....said it was cancelled by the customer.

this was not the same customer or location as noted in The first load.

....so I drive over to the load location and what do you know there is a truck loading
the same load I was scheduled to pick up....TQL again sold it to another carrier for less...
...this time it was an O/O...and he showed me the rate conformation sheet from TQL
....and yes....it was for less $ than what myself and TQL had agreed upon.

...never again...

 

I've hauled many loads for TQL. Never cheap ones... I simply don't take those. They pay on time and what's been promised. I was never able to get a load with CH Robinson because they're all cheap. They've called me plenty of times, but I refuse $1.50/mile.

 

TQL sucks period. They have all the pain in the ### loads that the major carriers wont bother and isnt worth their time dealing with.

 

Thank you for your inside perspective of this company. I'll copy and foreward this to my dispatcher and try to avoid using them.

 

TQL isn't bad with the exception that the broker of a specific load will call once if not a couple times a day to check on your progress which gets annoying as hell after a while but not bad to work with over all. CH Robinson is indeed cheap. Its difficult to BS the rate confirmation up with them. I've hauled 2-3 load's through them and have to say they have some ######## to deal with. I was driving a company truck getting paid percentage running it like a O/O truck except I wasn't the one locking in the rate confirmation. With all the added work, it wasn't worth the pay but it #### sure educated me on how to run a truck and it's really not as bad as I thought it would be as long as you plan ahead, play it smart and don't haul any cheap #### then you can make a decent buck. To bad the boss wouldn't let me negotiate some rates.

I do have to ask though: Anyone ever run a "blind" BOL?

 

Yep, just had to run one last week. It makes no sense at all, i dont know why they do it. The end customer knew exactly what
was going on. The bill of lading from the shipper said it was going to tn, but i went to ky, and the reciever was supposed to think
it CAME from tn.

 

Just yesterday I picked up a load of crane mats in Carlyle,ILL for a suburb of the Twin Cities. When the load was on TQL told me the BOL and rate sheet will be faxed once delivered. Their reason was the receiver did not need to know where the load came from.?None of this made sense to me;but their going to know anyway as the shipper filled out one of my blank BOL's.

About the annoying phone calls. I told them if they call every 100mi I will not be answering the phone and to my (surprise) they never called once. Except for the early am "check call."
