The first step is reinstating your regular license. Your DL number/record stays with you regardless of what class it is. There is no fresh start.
There is a big difference between suspensions and expired licenses. Why did you let it expire?
For the most part companies allow
3 minor violations in 3 years
0 major violations in 7 years
0 DUI's in 7-10 years
Here's is from Texas's DMV website
So you need to contact them directly. I'm sure all that means is get you regular Class C back.
Also here is everything you need to know about TX license cancellations and reinstatements. It starts in subpart E, down around 522.051

Riiiiiiiight, so I'm to understand that someone who has a DUI within the last year on their regular license is all good as long as they go get a CDL? I was unaware of that legal loophole. I think you should check your facts a little more closely.

If you don't believe what I said, so be it. It happened to me. I live in Alabama. Maybe your state does it different.

your previous infractions still show but are unrelated tou your DAC or CSALast edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015

Every state does indeed handle MVR reporting differently. Perhaps Alabama only reports infractions for three years and then removes them from your MVR. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with your acquiring a CDL.
In Indiana, every single infraction that you EVER get stays on you MVR (aside from certain special circumstances). I still get questioned about tickets I got in the early 90's...long before I had a CDL.

Not true. I got a speeding ticket while visiting my parents in PA, and it showed up on my CA driving record. I had a Class B CDL, and was told that everything transfers for CDL, but not for a regular DL.

Really? Thats not true mah man, once you had an accident or no-fault accident with a class D,E,C,B etcetera., It will be on your MVR. Some companies look back at you record from 3 to 5, others 3 to 7 and I don't know why but after 7 years you won't see any accident if you ask for you driving record at your local DMV they only will give you from the last 7 years now I don't know why some companies look at your MVR for the las 10 years. I had an accident back in 2009, I was hit by a drunk driver I had a class D license when that accident happened. Now I have my CDL class A. Im a school bus driving for about 2 months, in the hiring process they checked my driving record and I still have that accident on my MVR.

When are you planning on getting around to getting your regular license back? Just forgot to get it renewed for a few years? No car to test in available? Anyway get that license quickly then get in a trucking school. There wont be anything on your MVR for the last 3 years because you havent been driving right? It may or may not show this new date when you renewed it this time, but it wont have anything on there about when it just simply expired. And when they look 7 years back there'll be a couple tickets on there, but the last three will be clean. Obviously when you start applying for an actual trucking job, you'll have a fresh CDL in your hand (with no experience) anyway. So do you think they're going to give a rats ... that you havent been driving your dodge for the last three years( like that would make them feel safer hiring a new driver, because he always drove his car around? First thing get that regular license. 2 go get a CDL.Theyre looking for suspensions, revocations, duis. Not somebody that waited over 60 days to renew their license .

I was afraid it wasnt true,I was ready to call my cousin Ronnie with the duis and suspensionsand just say "Hey all you gotta do is go to a CDL mill for 3 weeks and you'll have a "clean slate" and a job!

So,you were visiting your parents in Pa ,but you handed the cop a California license. Thats why its on your California driving record.
