Hey roadrage, they may still be adveritising $72K but that's not a likely scenario right now. We had a company-wide conference call Friday where we picked up more business but at a reduced rate. We haven't been told what the new rates will be but we may be hauling cars for even less money than we are now. I plan on finishing this year right around that $72 mark when last year I made over $90,000! Living in Delaware, you will predominately be running out of Baltimore where most of our freight will be coming out of, especially after the first of the year when we pick up the midatlantic and new england regions out of mercedes and in April, BMW will be hauling out of Baltimore as well. I'm in a wait and see atitude over the news right now. I have alot on the line to just switch jobs in this economy but when the economy picks up there will be alot of openings here.

Living in the delaware area (like me)..I ran more out of Jersey City more than Curtis Bay..if you hussle you can make good money..Rainman wont stear you wrong..I worked for PMTG for 2 months than found another gig..hometime for me was important..I lived in the truck more often than home..but hey 6 on 1 off is a grind..I did fine..lots of pointers from friendly people help..make no mistake you will work long hours..just trying to learn the in's and out's..and once you learn them..long hours to make it pay.

As Rainman said 72K isn't likely..towards the end I was doing well..but a better job came along..better pay and benefits..more hometime..plus driving a daycab..I spend my nights in a motel..which makes things a bit more comfy.

Hey Rainman! Hope you're hanging in there!

I certainly feel eminently qualified to give a feel for this company. I have worked there for 4 and a half years. I live in the Northeast and I could be one of the most financially successful drivers in the region. There are a great many factors involved in success, however. Some are motivational on a drivers part. I should not lay the blame entirely on the company for my personal economic shortfall. But I will put a few issues into play as to why this company, and only this this company could do better to help itself as well as its drivers, and after this note, perhaps its reputation and recruitment efforts.
A single employee is friendly with other employees. He or she is friends on a level with the other people he or she meets with whether daily or only perhaps once in a great while. Information is gathered at each meeting. I met one of my closest pals at pmtg in my 1st week at pmtg. He is an if you can say," an ex" marine. He is a driver at pmtg He has been there longer than I and as a person would expect he does not take any #### from anyone who hasn't earned his respect. When I trained to load a car carrier, I went !st for a week to learn the paperwork in Michigan. Then I was sent with the other members of my recruitment class of 6 men to Toledo Ohio to pick up our trucks to be driven to the BMW facility in South Carolina for a week to learn to load cars. I learned quickly that management out here is arrogant and that they would just as soon send a new hire back home than to spend a little extra time to train a man to load a truck with cars. I took some crap from a guy down there who I would like another shot at. His name is not important. The real world got me through the training, but 2 of the 6 men in my recruitment class didn't make it through the 2nd week. It was almost a 3rd, but I wouldn't quit. I am the only one of those original 6 still employed after only 3 months.
To say the training is is inadequate is a laughable understatement.

However, I didn;t have a job and I will always be grateful to pmtg for letting me stay on and prove myself. This is not an easy career path. This not easy work. It has potential both good and bad. It has benefits, and it is fast paced, confusing, and full of frustration.
Trying to find a vehicle at nigth in a parking facility or port, alone, with no help can be very trying. A person can be very angry, upset, hungry, out of hours...wondering how he can find his cars, put them on his truck, get 10 hrs off and make the next days delivery. This is where my experience is valuable. I made the first year, thanks to my marine friend, Dan, and others who made my life here feel like a family atmosphere. We work together and even sometimes with some help from the managers at our terminals we get our trucks loaded and get on our way. We deliver our cars from New Jersey to...in the case of northbound freight...to Connecticut, Mass, R.I. N.H. and Me. Then reload the same day for delivery headed south towards N.J out of Rhode Island from the port in North Kingstown. I may not stay with pmtg much longer, as I have had issues with management. It may be in part due to my personality, but I am being honest and true when I say I have not been paid fairly. I have been out and out screwed out of payment for time and deliveries. I take a lot of ####, but my wife take care of my pay and points out all the discrepancies in my payroll. I don't like to be a daily problem, but after months and years, I have realized I will never be paid for work I have done, cars I have delivered and hours and days I have spent in their worn out broken down equipment attempting to affix repairs in order to make a delivery.
In short, I have been given an opportunity. I appreciate that. I feel that there are areas that could use improvement. Mostly the pmtg fleet is perhaps the oldest in the carhaul industry and a driver gets no compensation for breakdown time and the extra time and effort involved in breakdowns.
I will say, however that pmtg will always pay their vendors, and a good driver should learn his vehicle and utilize the services to keep the truck on the road, although one can expect to lose time, naturally in affecting these repairs.
In my nearly 5 years, her, however, I can honestly submit, that I can show I have lost about 6 months income due to breakdown of company equipment. A "newer " truck was offered to me recently, but it was not as well taken care of as the truck I currently drive(and therefore maintain), so I will finish my career here with precision motor transport group in the same tired old truck i have been nursing up and down rt 95 for the last 3 yrs. now. \
It is like an old pair of shoes. you know, you know there;ll be pain breaking the next pair in.....But at this point, the sooner the better.

Hi, my husband has been working there for 5 years. He drives regionally. It's a pretty good job. Long hours and you have to work hard. the starting pay would probably be between 75000-80000, gross pay. They don't have quite as many benefits as they did before the economic downturn. In fact, my husband started right after it happened.. Benefits are basically, paid holidays & vacation... they don't offer paid sick days, free uniforms, partially covered medical/dental. For an employee & spouse, it's about $72.00 a week out of your pay. Work is pretty consistent except for the quarter right after the new year. It does slow down at that time of year. They do occasional sweepstakes and give little gifts throughout the year at holidays.Obviously, it's not a union job so there's no 401k or type of pension/savings. They do offer tax free health savings acct for save ahead medical costs throughout the year. We don't use that. Probably should! Medical is pretty good/ standard. Dental is just 1000.00 per year w/ 50 deductible. More for maintenance, but that's pretty common. The training takes place in Michigan and lasts approx 3 days? They pay for you to get there and hotel... training pay is pretty low..a couple hundred after taxes. They hold back 2 weeks pay. You can claim per diem for tax purposes during the year if you are regional or over the road and they will do that for you so you save on taxes immediately rather than waiting to claim per diem on tax return. They pay per car... start rate is 24.50 ish per car. That's for local & regional work. Cars/loiads pay more the further out you go. They did just get a new account with Volkswagon but the pay is only 19.00 per car.. not good! But, it's more filler work. In any case,... over-all a good paying job if you don't mind hard work. It helps to give a current drivers name on your application. My husband is a very valued driver there..works very hard. They have a thing where they pay 2 cents for every mile a recommended driver works. It doesn't come out of your pay and it could help you with your application. However, it only applies if you pass training and keep the job. Where are you located? They have different terminals. Hope this info helps.
