I too, am a female driver. It seems to me the newer drivers out on the road are ruder than us older ones. You pass them and wave and they can't be bothered to even acknowledge you, at night; new drivers instead of turning their headlights off and on to signal you to come over; blind you with highbeams. I always say thank you on the CB or flash my marker lights to acknowledge people letting me back in front of them - again no response. Lots of new drivers seem to have their heads glued to the phone (a big no-no) seen a guy last week in Texas eating a bowl of cereal; talking on the phone and his trainer was in the jumpseat laughing away. Newer people seem to clam up in rush hour traffic and drive with the death grip on the steering wheel seeming not to notice that there are plenty of other trucks out there trying to get around them. I will help anyone in the world out who needs help - sliding tandems, anything in fuel island, helping them back up to horrible docks, i give drivers my showers from the J, I love talking to drivers and learning from them. I learn every single day and I have been driving for 10 years. New drivers will later become the older drivers and replace us "oldies" and hope that they learn to help others, be polite, drive safely so we can all get home to our families. (LOL- like you said the MEGA CARRIERS give away most of the newbie drivers. Be safe and keep it between the lines and help others like you would want to be helped
Truckers....not what I was expecting.

I guess the difference between me and the "other guy" is that my instructors in school drilled the "rules" into us. Didn't want us to go out and embarrass them i suppose lol. They taught us all of that right along with how to drive the truck. Maybe it does just come down to whether your an SOB or not.

Seems like everybody is stuck in there own little world and forgets about the other people. I am sitting at the truck stop today doing a 34 hr so it was nice to go and visit and talk with some of the guys. I went to have my trailer washed out the other day. I parked in line and went to the office by the time I came back to pull in the assigned bay a guy is pulling passed my truck to go into the same bay. I asked him what he was doing and he yelled at me that he was told to pull into the second bay. I told him that is fine, but usually you go by the order you arrived. He would have none of it and it took him two back ups to get into the bay. I was so hoping he would get hung up on the vacuum, but he made it. I guess his day was more important than mine.
I usually try to kill the shippers and receivers with kindness. I don't react to there bad mood and just stay friendly. Luckily most of the time we haul our own product and deliver to our customers. Going home is always an adventure since I never know what I end up with.Honch Thanks this. -
I could go on and on about this topic but my best advice just do what I do try to help when you can other then that keep to yourself and don't let those"c.b. rambos"shake you there the worst."I gots a big radio and hide and talk smack"And another thing that is helpful is "thick skin" lol
and me personally (still a noobie to only 18 years) I always try to listen to the older guys but if your young or look young my experience is that they really don't wont to deal with you lol -
like everything else it has changed in one generation
my grandfather kicked my ### when i was out of line
my kids would go to jail for doing that to thier kids
the belt did not traumitize me for life Dr Phil -
they actually tell you in those schools ,not to flash lights and such ??!! holy crap. what is it , "lets not act like a truck driver or something", attitude.lol

There's a lot of generalization going on in this thread. Not all of us younger guys are complete jagoffs. I'll gladly help anyone who needs assistance that I'm knowledgeable enough or able to provide, to anyone. I will say though, the guy that taught me to drive when I first started in a log truck was named Butch and carried a 1/2" hickory switch aimed at my leg. I honestly don't know what all this crap about iphones and all has to do with anything. If I want to talk to my wife or listen to my music, so what? Its not some magical disconnect.
Millsj, honestly, if you need help with something, you should ask, not expect it to come automatically. I imagine you'd be surprised by the results in a lot of cases, especially with you being "not one of the guys". Deep down we all like helping a lady. It makes us feel manly.reefer75 Thanks this. -

This is really what's the problem, not just truckers. Seems more people are rude period anymore. I even notice it as a customer at a store and treated poorly. That's the one place where everyone supposedly has to be nice and you rarely get that half the time now.
Personally, I've had many more good run ins with other drivers than bad. Maybe it's because 90% of the time I only run at night. Seems to be more courtesy at night on the road or even in the truck stop, except when it comes to pulling forward at the full island. That crap is even worse at night.
