The background check is what takes so long and typically takes about a month, sometimes less.

It took them about 4 days to get back to me after I sent in my info/prints.
While you're at it, consider getting your TWIC.

After passing the written test, I went the next day and did finger prints for the FBI and I had my new coupon in less than two weeks.

Figure two to four weeks. It for the most part depends how many TSA/FBI has to check out when your request is sent in. Mine took about a week.

If you have your TWIC it's a little faster for the results. It takes about a month after passing the test for the fingerprint results to get back to you.

Here in New York it takes about a month ... since you are a student time shouldn't be a worry, even the companies that require it will generally give a new hire time to get the endorsement if they do not already have it.

Since you are a student I would recommend getting it.

When I first got my CDL I made sure I got every endorsement I could get, Hazmat, Tank, Triples, Towing, Passenger, Steel Coil (That one is a New York State Only one).
