Hello, iam not sure where to begin but maybe you can help or someone who reads this. Iam a 27 year old female and I want to get into the industry. I have my 5e and had a class 1 permit but it has came to the end of its 6 months and is no longer valid. I have looked into local schools (NB/NS) but unfortunately at this point I cannot get the funding or extra money to attend. I have heard Alberta is a great place to start. Money is better and I was told word of mouth there are companies who will train and hire with no experience. Iam a hard worker and have no opportunity to get driving experience to get my license here. I just need a chance. I would like to move to Alberta and stay in a camp and get a job. If anyone can give me a contact or advice id greatly appreciate that. Look forward to hearing from someone. Thank you all.

    Take care and best regards,

I went to truck driving school because con-way was on the news crying that they needed drivers over and over I finished school went to con-way bright Eyed and ready they told me that they weren't hiring that they only did the news story to get there name out there, UPS was a bust I have applied an turned down as well as with most company that you have on here.

listen to all new truckers, you have to lie that you have more than two years experience to get a job, or else nobody will give you a chance I know because I did the same, I had my AZ for 3 years and nobody wanted to give me a chance so I talked to a good friend who is a trucker for 22 years and he said there is nothing and no body will hire new drivers the only way is lie and say you have experience.

Heres some of the large LTLs.....

    UPS Freight
    ABF
    Dayton Freight
    Conway (LTL)
    YRC (Yellow/Roadway)
    R&L*
    Central Transport*
    Fedex Freight
    Estes Express Lines
    Saia Motor Freight*
    Vitran*
    Old Dominion
    USF Holland

*= These in my opinion are bottom feeder LTLs, but for a rookie, it wouldnt be bad. Get your CDL with their equipment, get some experience and then apply to a better company.

I've been driving for 23 years and recently went to work for Central Transport and i can and will admit,,, It is a place for bottom feeders,, Junk equipment, terrible supervisors,No regards for safety, Here is a couple examples of what I've been told,, I was an Owner op for 3 1/2 years prior,, they told me to forget everything i learned as an O/O and drive the truck like i don't care,, I told them that my fire extinguisher was not fully charged,, response,, Don't worry the DOT never check them,,, I told them i have no brake lights on Trailer,, they say don' stop then,, They sent a replacement truck from Cleveland for me to use and during my pre trip i found that the truck wasn't even legal, Last years IFTA was still on it.. I'm not lying about any of this,,, I'm getting out while my CSA score is still Zero

Hello all, 1st post on the board. Been some very interesting reading so far. I am currently half way through my 160 hr. training course in Omaha, NE & just wondering what advice y'all could give me. I've got a wife, & a 4 year old, but wife is ok with me going otr if I have to for a year. I'm really wanting to get local A.S.A.P. after that (if I even have to go OTR) Just to gain the experience that I need so I wont get ridiculed by experienced truckers for being new. Do I go teams? I REALLY do not want to get on with some huge OTR company where Im gonna get lost just being a number. Trans Am looked pretty good until I started looking around on here about how they push you into a lease & if you wont lease, they seem to leave you hanging somewhere waiting for loads.
