age restrictions

Companies are happy if they can get one year out of a driver. If they see they can get more than that out of a potential candidate you should have no problems. Sixty really isn't that old if you have your health.

 

the smaller companies are who I stay with. they don't have the push push attitude. I can stay away from the crowded Northeast. and drive legal. what a concept. lol.

Go for it. as long as your work history and criminal background is good you got it. I had a guy in my class that was 70 and he got hired before he left school ! Heck I'm stating college to be a nurse at 55 ! I drove for many years and got sick and can't go back on the road, so if I can do this you sure as heck can drive a truck !

 

I'm about your age, so you can certainly do it. There is a 62 year old with the screen name Markus who is doing quite well driving. I tried it and the driving was easy, fun even. I just didn't like all the other stuff, being away from home weeks on end, not being able to find a parking space, being stuck at a shipper for hours on end with no bathroom, having to eat junk food every night or eat stuff I made, being away from everybody feeling like a hermit, driving 10 hours every single day, driving through snowstorms with almost no visibility with 60 mph winds, very low wages considering the hours put in, making wrong turns in SF and driving where no truck should ever go. So, just about the time I was to test out and get my own truck my wife got a job and I decided to do part time jobs and stay at home posting to TTR. So, try it out, there are quite a few people here that started trucking late in their late 50's and early 60's. Some are happy, and some like me quit. I am happy for the experience, and I sort of miss the driving part, but the other parts of the job made it not something for me as long as I have other options.

 

Don't let your age stop you from something you really wanna do.I've seen companies hire guys in their 70's.As long as you pass the physical then you're good to go.Companies could care less about your age.Heck if they turned down the more mature crowd then they'would'nt make any money.

 

Give it a try, you may enjoy it. If you become uncomfortable with the big rig, you can drop down to expedited cargo vans and still travel the USA in a more relaxed environment, ie , not dealing with major shippers & receivers. I drove tractor trailers until age 66 & quit in perfect health other than blood pressure medication. For the most part enjoyed my driving career. The only reason I quit was to fullfill a dream of bumming around in the Orient and relive some of my old Navy days from the late 60's-early 70's. No regrets!
