I had no choice but to learn the 10 codes when I started driving. I started out as a tow truck driver and we used 10 codes on a daily basis. It was a bit confusing at first but I'm glad I know them.

The only 10 codes I hear around here are 10-4 on the radio, cause some dude once said it in a movie a few times lol.

You're right. Nobody knows trucker slang anymore. CBs are a dying breed in itself.

 

I think there are different cultures as far as the CB is concerned. There are the driver's who believe in keeping up the old slang, breaker-1-9 what's your 20? sort of guys. When you're cruising along, that's just fine.

However, there are times to bypass the old-style of talking on a CB, when directness and clarity reign. When I'm running with a pilot-car I want both them and myself to be as clear and direct as possible. I'm not gonna' split the zipper and run monfort and alligator lanes, I'm going to "split the lanes", all that needs to be said. I don't want them telling me I've got a four-wheeler and a bubble-gum machine comin' round me, I just want to know what the traffic I can't see is doing, "car's on left" etc.

Even so, it goes the same other times I use the CB aside from pilot cars. If there's a wreck, I'll say there is a wreck and where its at, etc.

 

Was passing the pickle park last night and the shoe shine boys were advertising, the beaver pond is dried up.

 

Well......For you younger drivers....And us older ones with CRS like myself.....lol!

When getting started, remember at least the following 10 codes:

• 10-1 Receiving Poorly
• 10-4 Ok, Message Received
• 10-7 Out of Service, Leaving Air (you're going off the air)
• 10-8 In Service, subject to call (you're back on the air)
• 10-9 Repeat Message 10-10 Transmission Completed, Standing By (you'll be listening)
• 10-20 "What's your location?" or "My location is..." Commonly asked as "What's your 20?"

And maybe also this code... 10-100 Need to go to Bathroom. Also, remember that the code 10-4 only means "message received". If you want to say "yes", use "affirmative". For "no", use "negative".
