i had agreed to a load for today with TQL, but at late last night, they sent me a cancelation, saying the customer canceled

this is becoming typical MO with these guys

If the broker starts changing the load in any way then you have the right to re-negotiate. If they try to do something (last week I had this from one of my regular brokers) had a load that was already setup and when I arrive to shipper they tell me the 2nd PO# was to be picked up at their other location, which happens to be 125 miles back west. This adds about 250 miles to my trip. Broker tells me she can give me an extra $50. I tell her if it isn't $500 more then she can find another truck because this is not what I agreed to. She hums and haws for a couple minutes, then says OK. It would not have bothered me one iota if I had to walk away from that load, even with it being a broker I work with often enough.

As far as there being "no ethics," you need to be the good guy from the get-go. If you act with no class and go around cancelling loads because someone else says they want to pay you more for something else, that will do you no good in the long run. (This isn't directed at you, atrucker) If you are a stand up person, give your word and keep it, and when the broker or shipper or whoever jerks you around by cancelling on you, then you still have a good name, to them. Their name isn't much good, to you. My point is, let the broker be the one to ruin the relationship first. Once you get burned in the past then don't haul for that broker. It's pretty simple, if enough people would operate this way then this crap wouldn't happen.

    What, no screen shots?!?

With all of our trucks if we have a couple loads cancel in a month that is a lot. Did have one cancel last night, before the truck started rolling and broker paid $250. Plenty of good people on both sides.

But it does seem to me that good carriers and brokers find each other. And the opposite is true - bad carriers and brokers get together.

TQL sent me a confirmation on Tuesday for a load out of Atlanta, GA which was to load on Wednesday at 8 PM going to Knoxville, TN to unload on Thursday morning. This morning they called and said the shipper said the product was not all ready and had to cancel the load. The rate on this load was for $700.00.

Yeah you were waaay too expensive on that. Why would they give it to you for that rate when they can warehouse it overnight on some chump's truck for $400? Likely someone called and lowballed your offer which I'm sure you know that already. I guess TQL did the right thing and paid $150-$250 for TONU? That's what a select few agents with Landstar, CHR and other brokerages I work with would have done. Surely TQL didn't weasle out of TONU? This is why TQL loads never go on my truck. I work with honest brokers who do the right thing. If they cancel a load on me it's a legit reason and they pay TONU. They don't cancel cause some cut rate sucker will haul for less. They know the service they get from this truck and don't waste my time with sillyness. They're moving good freight and want it done without losing sleep. TQL are the kings of cut throat shady, use em up and spit em out worst of the worst. It's real simple, don't waste your time and effort with clowns like TQL.

I've had enough of TQL. I don't even bother calling on there loads anymore. They are the kings of wasting your time. Cheapest carrier will always cut your throat with them. There word means nothing, there just a machine.

Dealing with TQL is simple. I always quote them a ridiculously high rate. They have yet to accept any of my offers and I am cool with that. I would haul a load for them if I was within a half hour drive of the shipper.

Make sure you get dispatched before moving or they will not pay tonu! Usually they will send a confirmation then a dispatch sheet! But you must call dispatch first before moving!!!!!!! Your dispatch sheet has adress and pu #.
