does anyone know radio man out of harrisburg pa he works out of his car and he did some work on my connex. he seemed to do one hell of a good job when i met up with him over at the pilot he checked the power output of my radio and confirmed what i already new it was dead keying 40 watts and swinging 60-65 watts he did a quick 30 second peak and tune and poof its swinging 110 now everyone says im louder and clearer i also got a new antenna off him the fast trax which is just an off brand predator 10k for $70 which it seems to be doing awesome swr's are at 1.1.

so if ur ever in the harrisburg pa area 'round the pilot and the TA and the wilco and ur radio needs work give him a buzz on 19 he comes right to the truck and does a heck of a job i highly recommend

If that is indeed what he did, he just butchered your radio. You might see more watts but that's because your radio is now distorting, which means you're bleeding over into adjacent channels. Those extra watts are harmonics, aka dirty distorted sound over the air. All your CB buds probably tell you about that "crunchy audio". Smooth is where it's at.

He might be a decent dude, but the true reality is most CB shops dupe truckers and the uninformed, about how they can make a stock radio, with no amp, somehow push out 100 watts and put all the big strappers on channel 6, on lock down. They do this because they know you'll most likely buy into it and chances are you wont be back anytime soon.

Ever wonder how much the parts for a swing kit cost, and how easy it is to put in? The CB shop knows, and he makes one hell of a profit everytime he installs one, besides selling you something you really don't need.

Did the guy pop his trunk, break out the oscilloscope, have it plugged into your cigg lighter with the signal generator, and then use plastic screwdrivers? How did those waves on the screen look? Did they have the tops lopped off?

Just saying....there are some honest radio repairmen out there, but they're far and few in between. But any of the ones working from the back of their car, should be avoided at all costs, as they usually do not possess the required tools, or knowledge, to fix radios.

Otherwise, we might as well feel ok having 3 year olds come rolling up on their tricycles, and feel safe knowing when they open that Fisher-Price tool kit, all is going to be ok.

How much did he charge you??? Just have to ask because I would have done it for free. That is what I call a back yard tune up. It is all that is available in North Dakota unless you want to ship your radio out to someone. We don't have any real radio techs in North Dakota. But you do know that the same thing can be had just by cranking the mod limiter pot fully counter clockwise. I don't go more then 3/4 a turn personally.
